Has any one though of swapping a m57 diesel engine into the e30.
I have had a the loan of a 530d for the last few days and love the torque its manual and its fast not fast for a diesel , proper fast , my friend has a 530i petrol and it seems slower than the diesel.
I just think in the e30 it would be a weapon ,and somthing you could drive every day .
I know there is alot more messing with ecu , but it will drive fine with out abs module connected for sure with out going into limp home mode.

5hit loads of work mate to do on that conversion.
People will tell you on here no doubt.
You have to change loads including feul pumps, all the ecu wiring from one car to the other, also drivetrains.
There have been guys on here who have asked the question b4.
Do a search and you'll find something.

Ye I know it would be a load of hassle with the more modern ecu, tha run,s on a Kan bus system , but I know where i can get the loan of a proper dianostic machine for the bmw .
I have already done a s50b32 swop and now I want a bigger challange .

As I understand it, the basic principle is that you either recreate all the canbus signals that the ECU is expecting, or you rip out all the electronics and start afresh with standalone. The problem you have is finding a suitable standalone which has the features required to run the engine and then mapping it, probably from scratch.

There may be a third way, which is reprogramming the original ECU, but that is going to be a very specialist task. If you find the right firm you might save a lot of hassle.
