were is heater resistor and blower located

Depends on what age your car is, and whether you have aircon or not.

Left hand side of the heater box, sort of hidden behind the electric water valve.
Take off the inspection panels above the glovebox, then the one to the right and you can get at it.

Brian am I right in saying ...

AC + Facelift = Aluminium inlet

Non AC + Pre-facelift + near glovebox = Plastic inlet

Sorry for the hijack, but is the blower resistor on a car with aircon in the same place?

I have a spares car without a/c, but with a blower that works on all speeds - are the two resistor packs interchangeable? Both cars are 1990 325i.

Pre facelift and aircon = aluminium pipe, with resistor pack under blower motor.
Facelift = plastic pipe, with (totally different) resistor pack on side of box.
