Hi all,

I have finally laid my hands on an E30. Not a Coupe or a 'vert as I originally wanted, they can wait for the time being. However, I have just purchased a BMW 316i Touring off eBay at a reasonable price, which I want to use for my valeting/detailing company.

So my question to you guys is, what mods? I really want to deck her out on some nice springs and perhaps some cosmetic changes like an alpina splitter. Some advice would be greatly appreciated along with your own modded touring pictures.

Thank you in advance :)

Adam

Thanks for the advice. I've seen it, its absolutely stunning. Probably not going to invest in an MTEC kit, but perhaps some Ronal LS's like on Jonesy's cabriolet as they are lovely.

Pics to follow :)

Depends on what you want and what your budget is :D

An alpina splitter would be nice, but they are rare and expensive :D

15" BBS minumum (or whatever alloys you want... 16x9j gets my vote :P)
Good suspension
E36 steering rack conversion (really improves the handling admirably!)
HID dip lights.
I like iS lips and Tech1 side skirts. Touring M-Tech spoiler if you ever have the pleasure of actually laying your eyes on one, let alone hands. Probably easier to see Michael Jackson live in concert tbh.
Leather Sport interior (must be for a touring).

But the best "must do mods" imo will be to fix rusty patches or holes and a damn good service.
Next would be a 325i engine :D
Then the above.

Happy motoring mate! :thumb:

I dont have a tec 2 kit?....but thanks anyway.

Your not the first to think it has one, it just has colour coded bumpers,SE skirts and a volvo front lip.

A volvo lip costs about £10 and are invincible, ive ripped mine off many times and run over it ect.. still alive.

an alpina one would be smashed to bits by now, and they aint cheap.

Sumpcracker, that is a beauty! :notworthy:

I've recently picked up a clean 325i touring in diamond black with nice BBS wheels. Spent last weekend spraying grills black and rear lights red. I left the reverse lights white but looking at yours, they might have to come off again soon!

Have you got any more pics? What suspension you running? Exhaust? Is it loud?

I'm thinking to keep the exhaust standard cos its nice n quiet. the 5" HKS on the Evo and Miltek on the M3 already wake up the neighbours.

Its up to you but its a pian in the arse not having reverse lights, people in car parks dont realise im going backwards...
Its a 60/40 drop of various parts, and yes the exhaust is far too loud, gets on my tits and im sure it uses more fuel, deffo wakes the neighbours as i pick my missis up from the pub she works in at around 3am!! 8O Im not botherd about the neighbours though :D

I'd like to know what Volvo that lip is off, it looks great. Grills must be satin black like my E36 also, its a must do mod I feel.

What springs/suspension kit would you recommend and from where?

I'm not so bothered about the exhaust, some chrome tips to tidy will do a job or a cheap stainless backbox.

As Imy said the lip is off a Volvo 740 or 940. You take it off, turn it upside down drill some holes into it and mount it on the E30 upside down. Dirt cheap and looks good :D

I mate used Koni springs/shocks for his 316 coupe and they were really good. A bit stiff, but really helped the handling a treat. From personal experience, all my mates with lowered 4 pots (all 2drs though) have had pretty stiff suspension. All have been budget-ish options though. Make the cars handle very well. I find this is due to the light front ends though. The 6-pots have a weighty front so that may be the reason for a bit more progressive feeling from the cars I've drove with good suspension. May just be more worn :?

TBH, if check if you can or want to afford stuff from the likes of Bilstien or Eibach and the like, and start scrolling though the list of available options on different sites. www.europerformance.co.uk is a reasonable site with a good starting point. Any of the big make manufactures should be fine. When you lower the car 40mm + expect the ride quality to fade away :D

I picked her up yesterday! A real beaut for the money I paid, a few niggle paintwork wise but no rust. The odd scratch but nothing a good wet sand and machine polish cannot sort out.

Imy, what alloys are on your car in your signature? I see you are selling 2 sets, could you pm me with the details please I might be interested if the price is right.

I will get photos up soon :)

The fleet is beginning the grow. I am currently using the green 316i touring as the run around whilst the E36 is getting prepped for its MOT. Whilst the 318i Touring was local and I felt it was at a good price.

The 316i I am keeping, I need more ideas for mods, I current have on the list:

15" BBS BMW Alloys,
Volvo Front Splitter - where can I source this from?
Smoked Lenses
SE Side Skirts
Black Kidney Grills
Plus a Z3 shift as its like stirring porridge.

Another red 320i touring is getting picked up this week, got a steal plus it has mint seats which will be transferred to the nicer 316i. All 3 will be machine polished to relinquish some much needed life into their paintwork!
