My friend Rob has a 316i auto and has recently got hold of a 325i with a rotten shell. The plan is to change the engines and all running gear, suspension, brakes etc...
Was just wondering if anyone had any tips or know of any problems we may encounter whilst doing this?

Shouldn't be any problems, except that auto shell won't have the little mounting tab for the clutch resevoir. Other than that it should all change over with all holes, brackets etc. present and correct. Hell of alot of work though.

Yep, Should keep us busy for a few days. I think the main concern at the momnet is the wiring loom and having to remove the dash to change it. I haven't looked at it yet but Rob say's it could be difficult.

Main body wiring loom could well be OK to stay. Most of the extras that the 325 may have over the 316 are seperate additional looms.
It is fairly easy to change the looms behind the dash with out removing it, if you remove the radio and the instrument cluster as well as the access covers at each end. Having said that, it is much easier to remove and repolace the whole dash than you might think.
One of my projects at the moment is something similar - transfering all the fancy electrical bits, the ABS, electric windows front and back, the electric sunroof, the suspension etc. from a 1990 325SE + E36 gearbox and M50 engine, into a poverty spec. 1989 320 Touring.
