I been gathering stuff in preperation to undertake a huge restoration soon and think one of these DA/Orbital polishing sanding type machines be really handy but not too clued up on detailing bodywork type stuff so any suggestions much appreciated please.
Im thinking it could be used for inital sanding down the panels then use sanding blocks for smoothness then i can use it after painting and then after laquer, and the final finishing?

Festool Rotex 150 sanders are very good. I generally use mine for wood but they are intended as a three in one sander and are for automotive use, even allowing you to polish. Not a cheap tool but in my opinion worth it.
- can be used on two settings (course/fine) and various speeds
- fit different pads for sanding (hard) and polishing (soft).
