Hi

We have just purchased this - should arrive tomorrow.

It's for our 4 door 325. Does anyone have one fitted? I would like to see some pics / experiences of fitting.

Thanks

here's my omp 6-point, was a bit of a mare to fit although i have seen another type of omp 6-point with a bolted front hoop that looked a damn sight easier to fit.

as you can see i had to fabricate boxes for it to sit on.

We have this cage - couple of not very helpful pics on our thread below. I'll try and take some better shots showing the installation for you. Fitting wasn't too bad...

Edit - just confirmed it is a 104p.

It has the roll hoops as described.

Thank you for the pics. We are getting someone to fit this as to conform to FIA it needs mounting plates installed and neither of us can weld.

How long would you expect someone to fit this given they haven't fitted one to an e30 before, the car has the dash in, one FIA seat in easily removeable and I know there are some rust issues in the footwell (although the fabricated boxes are a good idea).

My best guess is two days labour?

Unless someone volunteers to fit it...

Mike - some pics of the mounting points would be great :)

What sort of bolts do people recommend fitting these with? and which washers too I guess.

Hex head bolts are fine. 8.8 is the general standard of most bolts sort of the best alrounder.

It goes up 9.8 10.8 12.9 and goes down 5.8 5.6 4.8 4.6 3.6.

Table here shows their tensile strengths etc: http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/ ... rength.htm

It's to do with the strength and quality of the bolt. Mines held together with 8.8's iirc. Not sure on the length, easy to work out though, just measure the width of the tube + 2 standard washers + nylock + a little bit more to make sure the nylock is properly on.

Alan - did you have to fabricate boxes because you are tall and needed height above the drivers helmet (as per MSA spec) or because if you didn't the cage would sit lower than the height of the door frame?

i made them because it would sit too low otherwise. i only know of one other omp cage that has had this issue, all the rest i've seen seem to meet the floor.

Sit too low because of you being too high or the door frame being too high?

no, i have had it in a facelift and pre-facelift(current) cars and when the cage was jacked up to be tight with the roof the feet sat like this:

first i thought it was the wrong cage but i wasn't a massive fuss to make some boxes from 3mm steel plate with captive nuts.

it's all possibly a bit irrelivant to anyone but me as i know of only one other omp cage like mine, all others seem to clear the dash rather than go through it and the main hoop goes all the way to the floor.
i assume mine was measured up on a sunday morning by someone suffering the effects of a heavy saturday night

Thanks for this info Alan :D

3mm thck steel passes MSA regs I presume?

We have 3mm spare alu - does anyone know if you layer the alu it can get past the regs?

No - see above, the car is currently without roll cage.

TTRS is probably the least favoured of the 4.

Sorry I meant for later in the year :)

Why's that? Genuinely interested as one of the organisers

Its about half the price, its at all the big circuits, strict driving standards, close racing and in my bias opinion has the best socials ;)

Also you get to support the PBMW races, e30 overload!!

It isn't as local for us.

It isn't as cheap as some of the competition above.

It appears more strict -some of the regs seem a bit anal - why not just set the standard to the blue book?

Honest feedback :)

Location- we hit the big circuits and don't focus on one area- so yes some will require travel

£100 per race, £200 for 2 not sure who's competing with that? And looking at the above links I cant see anything close :?

Anything above the bluebook is only to further increase the safety of our drivers, something which comes from PBMW roots. And any restrictions are to keep the racing affordable for our drivers.

We have 4 325's currently registered so you'd be in good company :)

Thanks for the feedback :)
