Brand new head on, rebuilt, new oil, everythig clean and sparkling again!
Started up lovely, ticked over smoother than ever before, lovely power etc.

Went for a drive last night, and 80 miles after the (second) head rebuild, my gearbox stops working. Screeching sound in second and loss of drive.

I'm gonna check the oil again today to make sure, but it sounded too sinister to be a low oil problem.
I've been quoted Ԛ£600 all in to rebuild the box. Any idea if this is good?

Is it going to feel like a new car when it's done?

Don't think I've got to experience to say if Ԛ£600 is a good deal, but I got Tourer with Switchable Auto, did you notice vibrations before the thing went? I've got a feeling mines beginning to let go.

no vibrations really, just the gears quietly slipped away one by one.......it was very peasceful.
Actually reverse had been playing up for a while, selecting when it felt like it, sometimes needing a blip of the throttle to wake it up. Then suddenly second gear disappeared, I don't know about 3rd or 4th as it wouldn't get there.

I had to drive round Romoford ring road at 10 mph in 1st to get to the garage where I'm having it done, it was most embarrasing!!

Ԛ£600 is great!

Some one quoted me Ԛ£1500

I didn't bother asking anyone else after that

BTW that was if i took the box to them.
