Tried doing a search but it comes up with a shed load of topics.
I have a massive engine oil leak from what looks like the passenger side of the block somewhere at the top. Put loads in yesterday and today its all gone. It seems to be worse when the engine is hot.
Any ideas before I take it to the garage? Cheers in advance
Its an M20 in a 89 320i cab by the way.
!!!!!!!!!!!! Resolved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparantly it was an oil switch, £60 for the labour, switch and oil, could have been worse.
Cheers Brian

Front, middle or back of block?
Under the middle of the inlet manifold?

From what I could see it does look like under the middle of the inlet manifold yes. Is that bad?

There is an oil return pipe that returns oil from the head to the sump.
It is a pipe about an each in diameter, and actually runs from the inlet manifold to the sump.
It has an O ring seal at each end, and is held up into place by a coil spring around the lower end of it. It sounds like your problem could be associated with this and the top O ring.
Have you disturbed anything under the manifold lately?
