I'm stripping everything out of the loom that I don't need for an MOT, I've come across a small black box in the loom with green multi pin plug in connectors and a grey round plug, can't find it in the loom diagrams in the Haynes manual, anyone know what it's for? Numbers on it are BMW 65.75-1381 286 and Sachs 014386007103. Are there any links to doing this sort of thing for a track car with clear colour pictures? Cheers, Andy

What engine, body and year is your car? I've done the same thing for my track car and i've made a full colour wiring diagram of the cut-back loom which might help, but will just serve to confuse for a different car...

That unit is the BMW theft alarm control unit.

It may act as a immobiliser (can sometimes do on the E28's)
If you unplug it and then the car won't start then you will probably need to join the 2 main green wires going in on that green plug.
I can't remember the specifics as i'm not in front of one right now but someone like Brain Moore will be able to help on wiring like this.

Thanks for the replies, car is an M3 but the engine loom is a stand alone system, so won't interfear with anything else. All I want left is the dash, lights, indicators etc. If that is the alarm it can come out as the ignition will pick up the engine loom and as far as I know all E30s have the same colour coding for all of the other functions that I require so any colour diagrams would be ideal, Thanks, Andy

PM me an e-mail address Andy and i'll send it over. It's for an '88 325i, and my diagram is split into vehicle loom and engine loom so that should help (plus a diagram that shows the fusbox wiring paths). I have seen different wiring colours on different cars, and diagrams supposedly for the same car with different colours
