It's all in the paperwork. Now he owns a sport (trim) his knob is massive and yours is teeny tiny.

Right on.
Unless his car has been de-badged, the "iS" bit on the back will make his an ounce or two heavier in theory.

no iS on the back of 325sport, as BMW figured the extra weight if the S would slow it down (except Africa of course where they happily badged it an iS but saved the extra gram by adding Alu wings)

to answer your question...

engine same

gearbox is different ratio for 1,2 and 3 gear

it has an LSD

his is 15mm lower and slighly stiffer

all other are cosmetic

if his is a sport it will probably have been thrashed, so assuming yours is a well looked after standard manual 325 you will proabably beat him.

0-60 and top speed are identical between the standard 325i and the sport - the main difference is in-gear accelleration in 4th where the sport is a little quicker.

Your friends sport may be quicker than your car as its probably lighter due to the panels under the bodykit dissolving...... :o:

He may have a sport which allows for a few more optional extras when you bought it, but your car may be a higher specced 325i :chuckle:

Unless they are treasured by the owners, 325i Sports are often thrashed cars, have gremlins hiding somewhere in them, a fat tin worm living under body kit where he can hide and a few minor other differences.

A good sport is a sort after car with a heafty price tag. A 325i in good nick is quite sort after by E30 enthusiasts, but not a rare car. Prices are rising, but they're no-way near a sport.

Essentially, by a 325i, by an LSD, Close ratio gearbox if you want one, some good suspension and you essentially have a sport. Could be done for 600 quid or even less. Oh, and a little M/// Grille for the front! winkeye

Yes and no, have you not heard of the credit crunch? its nearer £2000 now. £400 per letter - bargain I say.

How many times does this topic come up?

The Sport is better.

End of.

Stop arguing about it.

There's evidence on the spec-list. Compare a STANDARD 325i Sport to a STANDARD non-Sport 325i and you have your answer.

The only people who think Sports AREN'T better, are non-Sport 325i owners. Go figure.

Hang on... I think I hear a "But my non-Sport 325i IS better than a Sport..." in the distance. I'm getting out of here!

Similar story with a Motorsport Convertible compared to a standard Convertible.

Or a Cecotto M3 compared to a standard M3...

Enough said?

People who throw the £3000 argument into the ring, always seem to forget resale value as well!

A 325i sport will always be worth something! And that something will be always be more than the comparable condition SE or 'i.'

The sports only value TBH is the fact it says sport on it.

The only real benefit of owning a sport is it will go up gradually in value and can always be sold for more than an equivilant nick 325i, as the resale value will always be higher.

Other than that, its a waste of money. If you crash a sport, or by a hit and run, uninsured driver or something unlucky happens, you may get a crisp £50 note more back for it than a normal 325i, and the insurance is more expensive. Unless you fork out for an agreed payback on one thats reached classic status and agree to their pethetic terms and conditions...

But dont get me wrong... i would fork out the money for the 5 letters if i ever get the chance.

Nay... What a crock of 5hit. No offence meant, but come on... there's nothing on the Sport that makes it better than a standard 325i...?

I see you'd rather have one than a standard 325i if you had the money for one... so really you're just contradicting yourself here.

We're not talking insurance payout values.

We're not talking 'real' benefits of ownership... whatever they are.

We're talking about whether a 325i Sport is better than a standard model 325i. And they are.

Why would you want one over a standard 325i yourself if they're not better?

We can draw another parallel with an E36 328i and a 328i Sport - same problems with badge snobbery (and I've been both an E36 and E30 badge snob), but the Sport (again) is a much better all round car.

A looked after Sport is always going to beat a normal 325i or se variant.....It would have been a totally pointless car otherwise.....Why put a close ratio box, lsd and improve suspension if its not going to be any better than a normal 325i ?

how many times has this been discussed? I've lost count... at the end of the day a sport has some extra goodies on it from standard and demands a higher premium for anything ( sport tax !! ) i personally own a sport but truth be it i was to start again id be looking for the most rot free shell sport or not as i know i could add everything to it it would never be a sport but would be just as good as... there's a lot of ppl on here will say it will never be a sport ( I'm probably one of them.. ) but yea it could be just as good if not better

all i can tell is the sport has more toys.
and does look better with the kit on.
but for the extra price tag of a sport a 2dr 325i with all the toys on will work out cheaper
if you d.i.y it
one 325i sport/325i
here we go again!

Again, good argument, but we're comparing a STANDARD 325i to a STANDARD 325i Sport.

There's no comparison.

You could make a standard 325i into a Sport replica... but then it wouldn't be standard... would it?

Yes good comment, Add all the bits from a Sport to a standard 325i and hey presto you have a sport (Apart from what the log book says) If you did all this with the intention of keeping the car you'd be laughing.....However if you intended to sell after a short time you wouldnt get Sport money for it.

my mk2 escort flat fronts weren't standard all 2ltr pinto'd up and 2drs only
bda builds on both...worth about 4k+ now if still alive.
one was a 2dr auto ghia,,other 1.1L spastic,,,but a 2 door :D
so any 2dr sport or copy bmw e30 will gain value...
it's all about how cheap you can do it,,,,or just spend 3k on a sport
and get bored by not tinkering on it.
