I noticed last night that my wife's 318i's brake lights are flickering on and off as she drives along almost like she's tapping her brake pedal intermittently.....which of course she isn't.

What could be causing this? As it affects both brake lights together I'm guessing it's not a loose connection in one particular light cluster. Is there a switch mounted near the brake pedal that could need adjustment or replacing? :?

Yup, one just above the brake pedal. Had to replace this on my previous touring. Was ~£8 new IIRC.

May just be a loose switch or connector, worth a check before spending any hard earned.

Cheers Ian. Was it a strightforward job? Just unbolt old and refit new one?

Yes, I'll take a look at the switch and see if it's something I can fix before ordering a replacement.

IIRC, it's a push fit with a couple of plastic tabs. The swicth itself was rectangular, a bit like a small 9v battery.

Not the easiest of things to get to, but the process is easy enough :)
