Hi Guys, I have been working on my E30 recently and am nearly finished but two problems still remain.
Firstly the starter used to misengage regularly, upon removign it I found it only had the lower bolt installed and was loose. I have no idea how to fit the top bolt as it is inaccessable from the rear. any ideas or tips?
secondly and (almost) more anoying -
When the engine is warm, if you press the clutch and slip it into neutral when pulling up it often just dies, likewise lifting your foot off the throttle after reving it often causes it to die.
It started doing this after I installed LPG, however this is also apparent, though less badly, on petrol. I know the blue sensor and TPS is alright and I have tried plugging a 325 ecu in (its a 320 touring, 1988) and it makes no difference. I have also inspected the air intake pipes for damage. I was wondering if it was just the ECU learning bad habits with the tickover but it seems to always start at 800rpm when cold and drop to 500 - 600 when hot (sometimes 450).
I am going to check the tappets as I think they may have a influence, but any other suggestions anyone has I would be most grateful...
cheers,
Alex

Has the 320 got an idle control valve? Always been the problem on my past cars when idle was poor. Also, cleaning the distributor and coil connections on my M30 3.5 has really helped idle.
Not particularly helpful I know, but may trigger a Eureka moment for you
