It's a 2000CS made between 1965 and 1969. It was made before the E numbers arrived and is known as a Neue Klasse (new class) along with the 1500, 1600, 1800 and 2000 saloons plus the 1600/2.
2000CS was four speed manual only with twin 40PHH Sidedraught Solexes, 2000C was the single carb version, either manual or automatic. I'm a big fan of these. An ugly bastard but very distinctive.

Yeah like the look of it. Very modern and stylish - love the late 60s early 70s BMWs. Thanks for the info Andy - knew I could rely on the zone! Reading up about it looks like it wouldn't be a patch on the 3.0CSL in terms of performance etc. Probably a lot cheaper to get hold of though - last nice CSL I saw went for £19k (pre recession though).

i have a book entitled "classics in colour- bmw" which i think came free with my year's subscription to "bmw car" magazine, a few years ago. it has a couple of pictures of these cars and quotes "these cars were produced by karmann, just 12000 were built, mostly manual versions with the twin carb 120bhp cs engine, whilst autos came with 100bhp and a single carb". not sure about the looks but it certainly would be a head-turner these days.Andyboy wrote:It's a 2000CS made between 1965 and 1969. Karmann built all the CS Coupes and the first 18 months of the 633CSi as well. 2000C's were almost all autos and I've never even seen a manual one. I suspect any manual 2000C's will be converted to manual.
