Ok thats good news, what about one needing restoration to underside, but exterior, and interior are lovely? Engine needs timing chain, how much?

You'll be lucky. Front wings always go first and unless this one has had them replaced, I wouldn't touch it. Guy around here just bought two wings from the dealer plus other bits & pieces and it came to £1k. There are no copy panels available.Returnof318i wrote:what about one needing restoration to underside, but exterior, and interior are lovely?

It will be far, far rustier than you think.
Wings - top edge, behind the indicator and the leading edge where it meets the bumper, also the sill line of the wing; inner wings - everywhere - trumpets, flitch wing attachment bracket; sills - inner and outer and the floor too; base of A post, bottom of B post, screen apertures front and rear, wheel well splash panels and seals (if rotten the sills and A posts will probably be gone too),roof behind the sunroof, rear arches number plate panel and below the rear lights; are all potential rust traps.
Mechanically shocks springs, brakes, engine and drivetrain are different and expensive. Everything else is basic E24/28 and cheap enough.
Timing chain job will cost approx £900 in parts. It CAN be done in situ without removing the head. If it needs done because it has snapped - bank on £4000.
Prices? Depends entirely on structural condition. Restoration is expensive. If the wings and inners haven't been done, they need done - simple as that.
I have bought a breaker for under £1000. I've sold a stripped restoration project for £3500. I bought a decent up and running MoT'd car for £3750 last year (sold for £5300) and sold an absolute peach for £8995.
Anything complete is worth at least £1000. I'll give you £1000 sight unseen for any just about complete M635.
Needing work, but never going to be concours £1000 to £5000 depending on the structural condition.
Half decent up and running MoT'd car not needing a lot done to it - useable immediately - £5000 upwards.
Mint, low miles and/or low owners and/or restored cars are at least £10000 and often much more - £30000 or very near it has been paid in the UK.
Cost of restoration WILL exceed its value. A car needing both mechanical and bodywork restoration will be an expensive process and you'd want to be getting it at near the lowest end of these figures.
I'd obviously be interested in hearing more.
