Hi. Can anyone tell me if I need to change the cam belt on a 325i. I have been told that the m20 engine is driven by chains not belts and that they do not need replacing. If so will I need to change the water pump any time soon, its done 139000 miles?

Any help please.

Yup, change cam belt every 30-40k or 4 years, whichever comes first. Change the waterpump at the same time - false economy not to!

If there is no positive evidence of a cam belt change,do it as soon as possible. The consequences of not changing it are very costly.Cambelt from GSF is only about £10,rebuilt motor...£1500 minimum.
