Hi

Im thinking about getting this helmet for trackdays...

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ ... PR13000409

Its pretty costly but I dont really want to compromise on saftey! Has anyone got this or reccomend any others? I rang Demon tweeks and they said I can have it for 300 including VAT.

Anything from Sparco will be fine, even the cheap open face ones are good lids

The only way to buy a helmet is to go to a shop, they all have different fits so you'll only know the right one when try it on

You could buy online, just make sure that you can send back free of charge if the item does not fit.

I went to demon tweeks and it is surprising the difference that "medium" can mean.

the most important thing in a crash is protecting your head

and the most important thing about keeping you head safe is having a helmet that fits like a glove, you could go and crash at 80 MPH in Lewis Hamiltons helmet and sustain more injuryies to your head than you could with a £80 helmet that fits properly.

Tags, names, celeb indorsments mean the best part of fack all if your head is a compeltely different shape to the inside of the helmet as all your head does is crash into the inside of the helmet after the helmet has stopped decellerating, instead of being firmly held so the padding and helmet construction can do its job whilst decellerating at teh same speed as your head.

forget what it looks like, who makes it, if you look like the stig etc, get the one that is going to hold your head secure in a crash. if there is more than one that holds it perfectly, then you can choose to be fussy about brand/looks etc

spot on Chris

You need to be able to check it fits you properly.

A way of checking this when I was a nipper and raced karts was to put the helmet on and fasten the chin strap and then put your hands on the back of the helmet and see if you are able to roll the helmet forwards and off of your head. No point it parting company with your head lol.

If you intend only doing trackdays in tin tops then i'd go for an open face helmet.

Shoei, Bell, Arai & Simpson are the leaders by some way, but don't get carried away by having all the Gucci kit as said.

If you intend on doing trackdays with out a harness then get a full face or an open with a chin bar. If you stop "abruptly" you stand a good chance of chinning the steering wheel. Most of the BTCC or Rally boys wear a full face now and thats even with HANS devices.
Possibly to offer more protection from things coming loose in the event of a biggy?

You can always take the visor off for tin top use and pop it on for those lads karting nights.
