the gearchange on my old 2.5 touring is absolutly pants! when i took a quick butchers underneath i found that the plastic ball socket the gearstick sits in is all broken and seperated. any ideas what this part is called and does the gearbox have to come out to replace it? if anyones got an idea of cost would be helpfull too, thanks :D

you can change that while it is still ikn the car its only an half an hour job i think its just called plastic gear bush its about £7 from the dealer new i had one not so long age. there is also another part on the end of the selector rod that wears out and causes the gear stick to be sloppy

You could fit a short shift kit from me £39.96 and this will sort most of the slopiness out
or just get the bushes

The bit you are on about ball socket £5.82
and the yellow washer/bushes that wear £0.16 each
