Heater blower only works on No4?

I've owned a good few Golfs in the past (im a VW nut with my E30 as a daily) and this is usually caused by the resistor inside the blower motor. Quick and simple fix.

Is this the case with E30s or is it something more complicated?

Same, but resistor is behind the dash, seperate to the blower motor. - Chris-W keeps a stock of these, IIRC.

I also have heater fan resistors if required

Most commonly accessible inside the glovebox, right hand side, by the heater valve.

zimmerbimmer1 will help you out there, but there's plenty of second hand ones about.
Check the fan motor isn't partly seized before you replace it.

Mine doesn't work at stage 1 and 2. If I put it to stage 3 or 4 it works. If I go from stage 3 or 4 to the slow 1 or 2, then they all work. Seized motor I guess?

you have it in one!
If it's not too far gone, it can respond to an oiling session.
To do this effectively, you have to remove the motor completely, and have an external power supply available that you can hook it up to.
Get some light oil onto the bearings, and work it in by moving the motor shaft sideways as far as it will move several times, then run the motor with the shaft vertical, to encourage the oil right into the bearings.
Repeat several times, and you may get another fifeteen years out of it!

Mine only works at 3 and 4 :S But i think my problem is the resistor, but sometimes it makes a loud sound :S it shakes the car a bit, can this be fixed?

Thanks! I'll do that. I also have a spare blower motor from my E46, the only thing different is the blade design from what I see. Are the blades removable from the E30 fan or are they balanced and pressed on the motor shaft?

The motor and fans are only supplied by BMW as a complete assembly, so they're not intended to come apart.
I can't say that I've ever tried to seperate them, TBH.

any1 got a guide to remove the blower as think mines siezed too.

Remove large steel panel at the back of the engine bay (four self tappers). Depending on model, you may have to unclip some wiring and wiring covers, etc, first.
Remove the top halve of the plastic 'snail shell' fan covers, remove the two wires from the motor, then unhook the large spring clip that holds the motor. This last bit takes a bit longer to do, than say!
