Why'd it not go through the MOT? If you can fit them in the arches, and stop them scrubbing the insides of the arches on full lock, then yes, it's perfectly legal.

i am reasonably car-litterate, even for suspension, but mostly only stock so i am going to expose my ignorance here but..... what the hell are coilovers, i mean, how do they differ from usual shocks and springs

They have an adjustable spring platform, so you can ajdust the height of the car, usually between 70 and 120mm

its not the brake test you want to worry about its the ramp if that's what they use and not the other one that is the jack up arms as the person might rip your front valance off

Yeah, my E30's a good 70mm down, and I keep catching the centre section of my exhaust on speed bumps etc. I can't drive up kerbs or anything either because I'll catch the sump too.

Basically, if your car is really low, its not a fail because of it, they just test it differently. But bearing in mind my car is 70mm odd down on 14" and 15" wheels... 60mm on 19's is going to be high, if they'll even fit!

Make sure if you do drop it your using the appropriate shortened shocks aswell, if when the cars lifted the springs become loose it will fail.

Some garages may turn you away if the car is to low as they could struggle to get it on the ramps and the last thing they want is to damage your motor, 18's on 60mm will I would have thought sit quite high in comparison to a 60mm drop on 15's so should pose no problem.

edit**** Doh just re-read your title "shocks and springs"***

My 318i is dropped 60mm on 16's. Great fun to drive, till you come across a speed bump, pothole or trying to park in a multi storey. Plus due to the camber lots of uneven tire wear. Still... looks the bollocks
