When and if they introduce this new car tax, how much will it cost to tax your E30's?

Is it down to how much pollution per se your car is producing, or is it how large your engine size is? Or is it both? Or just another way of getting more money out of the car/vehicle driver?

Will it affect any of you? It won't affect me at all, I'll still be driving my 1990 325i auto convertible!! :cool:

Im just about to do my 25 and thats going to be 185 for the year!
Bit of a shock when my skoda diesel is 120 for the year and it would leave a 325 for dead lol

101.75 for 6 months, or 185 for the year (just taxed my honda accord for 6 months and the e30 for 12) my vectra just sneaks in under the 2001 rule (its november 2000 registered) so that will be another 101.75 end of this month! just as well though cos its a 2.2 so dread to think what it would be if it was couple months younger

Correct. the fuss with the politicians are cars post 2001 and pre 2006.

All those not based on emissions ie pre 2001 are NOT affected and are £185 for 12mths this year rising to £205 next year, iirc.

the thing is, how long until they create some new rule for the pre-2001 stuff. Surely to the bean counters this is a huge untapped resource.

They have just introduced this over here in Ireland so that tax is based on C02 emissions of your car instead of on engine size - it is only affecting new cars or cars imported after July 1st 2008 though so old cars already in the country are not affected.

Tax is €600 a year for the 320i i'm driving now 8O

It is a shrinking market though as the old bangers slowly die off. Only the good ones will be left and those won't bother the atmosphere too much.
Golden Brown ( :wan: ) and his cronies are planning to align the tax system to Europe where cars over 30yrs are free but limited in mileage per year. :D :D. 5 years to go for mine then :rock:

Anyway I'm no scientist but the major gas for global warming is carbon dioxide. What is the main gas exiting from any Cat equipped car; oh yes carbon dioxide. mmmmmm let me see why did we have to have cats fitted then. Perhaps some euro mp or whoever has shares in a Cat company. :?

I am pretty sure the 30year not car tax thing no longer applies - stopped in a certain year.

I don't think they can change the rules for pre 2001 cars as there is no reliable data on how much pollution they create. There is also a VERY strong argument to say that older cars are better for the environment as they have less manufacturing emmisions.

Us pre 2001 car owners should be hoping that this tax hik for post 2001 DOES come into force, as I am pretty sure it will keep values of these cars up.

Use Dobbies Vectra as an example, if it doesn't break it will be worth significantly more than one which is 6 months younger!

This proposed tax system is likely to keep MORE e30s on the road IMO :D they will be cheaper to run than newer cars!

ditto a proper tank like an e34 with some LPG will just go on and on and on and on and rack up lunar mileges just like a solid E30 can. Modern enough to keep with modern traffic with a retro look

Yes it did. When Tony Bliar and crew (:puke:) came to power in 97 he stopped it at the 25years so all pre 73 motors get free tax and no limits on mileage.
In many European countires (as the EC dictates) then all cars over 30 years old are exempt from taxes but are limited on mileage. Eg the Dutch system. I met a guy with an old beetle who had to pick his shows as he had around a 3000 mile limit per year (checked at MOT time).

Except the higher than inflation increases - 155 > 185 > 205 year on year. Bastards. I think I'm right in saying all e30s come into this bracket as the cut off is at 1500cc. Glad I don't own a post X-reg car though, as it would either have to be 'sensible' to take advantage of the tax changes or would suddenly be worth bugger all and expensive to run to boot. My mum drives a 51 plate SLK and that is going to be 210 > 300 > 430 over the next three years.

I reckon if you've got an X-reg 540i with a certified lpg conversion you're on to an absolute winner (until they piss about with the rules AGAIN)

hahahaha my work mate just taxed his a4 1.8t and it cost more than my 535 hahahahahaha he was not impressed and even better his is going up to 300 ish next year while mine will still be about £180 for the year!

once the fuel goes past £2 a litre and the tax rules change to emmissions i will be taking myself out of this country i think.

The big fuss in the late nineties when cats were introduced was not global warming but acid rain, the ozone layer and to a lesser extent lead in petrol. Instead of lean burn engines which are more economical, the legislators went for catalysts which actually use more fuel.

And isn't the mineing and refineing of the Rhodium to make the cat's an absolutly filthy affair? I thought that it caused more pollution than if no car had ever been fitted with a cat?

I saw a program the other night which showed that the ozone layer is deminishing because the Earth's magnetic fields/forces are going through a flip at the moment. Its going to last another good few years yet (300 years or so) but eventually the fields will flip and your compasses will point South instead of North and all will be well again.

If this is the case, CO2 and everything else has absolutely nothing to do with global warming.

Soon, I will not be able to do my work I specialise in. I can not afford to move closer to where I work. Public Transport is just not available to where I work from where I live. Fuel is going up to a point I now share to go to work (but this is only a short term thing as my lift is moving soon) and with road tax also going up and up and no payrises for the last 4 years I wonder what the future holds.

And people wonder why I am selling the M3's :(

I know how you feel Shep, the power's that be within the company i work for have decided that the doncaster depot, although returning more profit than some others has to close in 2 weeks.

My job is safe but i will have to commute to rotherham, more than doubleing my journey and expenses,

I am not that local. I live 16 miles from my work. I could catch a train, but the station is 4 miles from me and Chipp station is about 7 miles from work, so even that won't save the environment lol.

E30 for fun and weekends. Cheap diesel runaround for daily driving... Red diesel all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
