Hello there, recently had an argument with a kerb and the kerb won :( so i now have a fairly reasonable sized hole in the sump. im pretty sure its just the lower sump, but have never done one before. is it possible to take this out without doin all the annoying engine lifting and subframe moving nonsense? and what other sumps will fit it? theres a few bms at the local scrappy is all....
any help is greatly appreciated
cheers,
Ben

It's a ten minute job to change it, Just jack the front up enough to get under it with enough room.

Then take off all the bolts on the lower sump,
Check the oil pick up for any cracks in case it was damaged before you put on the new sump.

A sump from a 316 or 318i will fit too
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream

A few bolts that hold the upper sump to the block are inside the sump, and reached through the hole where the lower sump fits.
These bolts have a habit of unscrewing themselves and falling into the sump, so check they are tight while the lower sump is off.
