Been down to Norfolk in mine today, used the 2.7 last week, comparing the two the M50 needs to be above 3000rpm to give it's best...had a 330ic close up for a closer look at the tailgate badge winkeye I left it on the twisty bits before the Norwich bypass, but let him go at close to three fiqure speeds on the dual carrageway!
I am finding that I need to drop a gear to overtake with the M50,the 2.7 is much easier to drive quickly on the same roads...
But the sound track is so good!
Still think Lee would enjoy a Meccano set!

This is my mechano set :)

I do like to rev the fanny off a car, so the M50 with the cams was going to be fun, but at the same time you don't always want to be stirring the box to have it in the sweet spot, so hopefully the 2.8 will give me the best of both worlds and with the M50 inlet on it should have some action up the top still.

Imagine me with a S50 swap, now that would never get finished :) :)

As long as your running an alloy blocked M52 make sure you have an iron block tucked up in the shed :)

Good decision though 8)

Some pics up when you have her home lee. I read a old tbmw last night mate. There was a m52 in with m50 inlet, American spec m3 cams because there m3 is m52 a chip and exhaust it was dyno'ed at 264 bhp. That's nice power in a e30 mate.

This E36 M52 an alloy block?
May pay you to have your M50 block's bores checked for wear/damage and use that with the M52 crank/rods/pistons,then drop your re-furbished head on top.....do it once and do it right!

Its the right way for a long lasting engine, but if you know it to be good with no overheating problems then why not keep the alloy block, especially as its a replacement with iron liners

My thinking,Dan,is that this driveway ornament may as well be built in the most complicated way that we can find...

You biatches :)

Got it home, engine seems to run well although it's been in limp mode due to the auto box fault where it will only change up as far as 3rd, but despite that, doing a steady 70 all the way home the turd has still returned 30mpg without the assistance of 2 extra gears :)

It's not a bad car, the leather gives you a nice sweaty back and I assume the front balljoints are past it as the steering is a little wooly. Almost seems a shame to rape it :)

I'm not going to faff about making up a hybrid lump and reckon with only 69k on this engine and steel liners it should be good for some abuse. I'll sell the M50 head as it is fault free and had a pressure test and skim before going back together.

I have found myself being swayed a little into the realms of E36 darkness on the way home and at £500 for the car, it'd make a good stepping stone into E36 ownership for little outlay, but I have been here before and bought the soarer and it took me about 18 months to come back to E30's because I likes 'em :)

Gearbox has a fault, won't change up from 3rd, so it is running in limp mode. Front balljoints are suspect, otherwise I'm guessing it probably wouldn't need much for an MOT and then some rent in the screen.

It drives nice (apart from the above issues).

Not started attacking it yet, moved the fleet around on the driveway tonight. The touring is in position ready for me to climb underneath and start undoing everything and put the engine hoist back into service. Might start attacking it tomorrow night (started raining now)
