the plastic plug in the left hand side where chris has a bulb is in e28 5 series cars.
Its when the electric window packs in. you can screw the screw into the spindle after removing the blank in the door with the allen key insert for the screw driver .then use the spark plug wrench to tighten it.

So basically you fasten the plastic nut to the end of the window lift spindle and manually turn window up or down with spark plug spanner.

Maybe on convertables it can be used in the same manner,or for the retractable roof.

So if you want one they are very common in the e28 tool kit.
