how did you fit the E36 rack? there had bees some speculation over whether this will work with the M30 sump. i haven't tried yet but have the rack to try at some point...

It is very close to the sump, I hope the new engine mounts don't sag too much!
I made up the steering coupling without the rubber as shown in this pic

I then had to modify the front exhaust manifold (for cylinders 1,2 and 3)
to miss the steering coupling

I hope the new engine mounts don't sag too much!

I used poly engine mounts, you get a bit more noise in the car but they are soild.

your exhaust runs a totally different way to mine! mine needed a bashing to clear the rear wishbone mount!

Well mine isn't exactly ideal, but it was cheap!
The E30 I bought had a Scorpion stainless rear box on it and I just connected the downpipes the most direct route to it without them hitting anything!
In total pipes and clamps cost about Ã‚£45.
I had to reshape the heat shield under the fuel tank slightly but that's all.
It looks and sounds a bit Mad Max but it will do me for the moment!

this must simply be due to the M3 exhaust routing. it's nicer but seems a lot tighter than Driftboys one... took me ages of fiddling to get it to all line up without hitting the floor/column/lolly pop etc. didn't help that it came from a VERY badly crashed M3 though!

What he means to say is: "It took me and my brother hours to fit this rare-and-lovely M3 Scorpion system, as we had to bend it back straight by JUMPING ON IT A LOT!"

I seem to remember a scaffold pole and some bricks getting involved as well, but I might getting confused with the engine swap...

Lets change the subject from wrecked M3s and E-Types!

Getting me all emotional!

Just an update.
Went to the scrappy with the E36 M3 in it to get the new rack. There was a big thunderstorm and torrential rain at the time so I was really enthusiastic!
Got the first rack mounting bolt off and the mounting lug on the rack fell in half!

Ended up with a standard E36 rack but it's fitted now, hope this one doesn't fill both it's gaiters with pas fluid!

Still no joy with the suspension, my emails are being ignored so I'm stuck with a kit that doesn't fit!
Just sent a very abusive email because I'm

now!

Looks like I'll be ordering a Bilstein kit after all!

I'm planning to start using it as my only car on September 19th - that's when my insurance is up for renewal so would save hassle and money.

I only need to sort the suspension - as mentioned, tracking, find a replacement E34 535i radiator, bleed brakes, bolt the front seats in and get an alarm fitted.

It won't look too pretty as there are a few bits of bodywork that need sorting out but that will have to wait a short while.

i have to sort a MOT, change both front wings, bonnet, tailgate, both drivers side doors and the PAS pump. then touch up some small bodywork bits, clean / polish lots etc etc. hopfully also sort the wheels too as three are polished/anthracite and one is tired and silver (replacement for the smashed one.) should be busy!

i'm leaving my oversoft suspension, tired bushes and E36 rack til afterwards as i've got enough to do by then!

Just an update - in case anyone is interested!!!

Been doing little bits and pieces really.
Got all the interior together, except the Corbeau recliners which will go in last so they don't get dirty! Replaced cage bolts with black cap-headed bolts and fitted padding on bars along door tops (I'm bound to hit my head on them).

Changed the diff oil for the correct stuff, that will teach me for reading a Haynes manual!
Put my standard front suspension back on - that (Ebay) issue is being resolved.
Tinted rear lights, front and side indicators and painted kidney grille and 'eyebrows' black (going for a moody look)! Replaced tatty, cracked tech 2 boot spoiler with small lip spoiler.

Removed standard alarm (cat 1 required for insurance) and tidied under bonnet wiring.
Fitted air intake pipe extension (from plumbing department in Homebase and painted black) with K&N cone filter. I will shield this off from the exhaust manifolds when I get hold of some sheet aluminium.

Took ecu out and apart ready for a Zone M30 chip.
Still trying to source a replacement E34 535i radiator but hopefully have one tomorrow thanks to a kind gesture from a fellow zoner who offered to pick me one up.
Should easily be ready for Santa Pod on 24th sept, as long as I find a buyer for the RX7.
Finally tidied up Dad's garage and hijacked it with the BMW!

It's not on the road yet, my insurance on the RX7 runs out on 19th sep so I'm hoping to have that car sold and then renew insurance with the BMW to save hassle and money! But the BMW is mot'd until october!
Wouldn't mind another go on the strip in tha Mazda though (if it's allowed)!

The cage is a second hand O.M.P. one, painted Ford moonstone blue (3-door Sierra Cosworth colour) same as the cam cover, timing covers and engine mount brackets.

sounds like you're getting on well though!

as far as i know, it's BMWs only on the strip that day which is a bit of a shame...

mine is also looking sketchey as to whether it'll be running again by then. at the moment i'm seriously considering tidying the bodywork, fitting a towball to my 406 (veg-oil) diesel and hiring/borrowing a trailer to get it there! racer stylee!!!

does anyone know where i can hire a trailer or transit type car transporter from?

Not googled but somebody asked about trailer hire on another thread a few weeks back. Kept the results from then in my fav's just in case!

I am indeed going to be there, It falls on the day of my dad's stag do but that's at night, Santa Pod is through the day!
It's wrote on my calender and in the diary, booked the day off 'work'
There is no stopping me now! Unless I get run over!

driftboy, have you got a windscreen washer bottle organised yet? you have slightly more room than me cos your battery is in the boot.

the only place i had to put one was on the old air box bracket, searched for ages to get one to fit. finally found a mk1 nissan micra bottle is the perfect size (misses the oil filter) and with some messing about the micra bracket will probably fit well (mine is tiewrapped on for now waiting untill i get round to drilling the bracket).

the plug on the nissan washer motor even plugs right into the bmw wiring which was nice

dunno how everyone else has done it but no one told me when i asked

Yeah, I put a small bottle in the boot too. When I get an alarm fitted I've got room for the siren where the battery is on a lot of E30s (mine was already in the boot when I got it).

looking good driftboy!

i had the same problem as you nickso. mine now uses a suzuki vitara washer bottle and pump, positioned on the (sad and empty looking) airbox bracket. i extended the wires back over for this. the bracket i needed was just a flat ali plate which adapts the hole centres as the vitara one is about 30mm wider iirc.

it needs a little fiddling now i've changed the top rad hose for a new one as i've left it a bit longer and this now heats the washer fluid!

i even drilled a hole in the side and refitted my float level switch!

the other way to do it with a tourer is to rewire & replumb the rear washer bottle and pump to work on both front and rear.

it looks a lot easier to fit the wiring and replays in with no battery there! no shoving the battery in the boot for me! no space!
