small update. due to work i havent been on this for a couple of weeks (its been killing me) but a little progress.
now you see it............

........now you dont

the boot floor is now flat but my camera died so i'll post pics when i go back over.
once the rear panel is fitted i will be taking the rear quarters off to cut away the original one's. not looking forward to that job but the weight has to be lost.
front wings are now complete so i will be taking them to my local strippers on the weekend to be dipped. its the quickest way to get the wax oil off the inside and it cleans between the welds so alot of time will be saved.
@ imy.. send me a shell and a large chunk of cash and i'll get right to work

you'll need some wide wheels to fill these arches.ImysE30 wrote:Tempting, very tempting

As for the exhaust. It will be hidden behind the bumper for a clean look.

About £250 including buying the car so far. As I only work on it on the weekend it's taken 6days to this stage.
I think rav will be pleased but then he did say he would park in front of me next time lol.

I think it's just a case of cutting the well out and then welding in a new flat sheet of metal in

well i've been busy this week and got a bit done. rear panel and boot floor all done

a quick coat of primer inside and out to protect it while the project move's on

so the next job was to remove the wide quarter ready to cut away the original. this was not a job i was looking forward to after all my hard work making them, but it has to be done so.....

i must be doing something right as it stayed together

and now its all cut away ready to be refitted.

the wide quarter is now sealed, primed and stonechiped inside so ive just got to weld it back on, that will happen on monday
for those of you that want to know about the tyre well, its an easy job to do, just drill out the spot welds (there are a few) cut away the sealer and push it out. cut some sheet steel to size and weld back in. now, you could use part of a flat floor from another car so it has swage lines in it or (what i did) get some 15mm x 15mm steel angle and weld underneath to give it support. job done..........until monday then.

Looking great, thats how the quarters on my m3 have been welded.
I, well the previous owner gets a lot of grief for doing it like this. However, it don't bother me, and i don't see it bothering you.
Thanks for the advice on the tyre well, added that job to my list on the tech 2.
Keep the pics coming

All in good time. The engine is last on the list as I want to finish all the body first. I will probally put the 2.7 in and build up the 2.8 when it's back on the road. There's only so many hours in a day so if anybody wants to come down and build it for me give me a shout. I can pay with food/drink/music and good company
I'm after a roll cage too. So if anyone has one that they want to be relieved of let me know

I'm curious, not critical but what's the point in going from 2.7 supercharged to 2.8 supercharged? It is so powerful already and 0.1 of a litre isn't really going to make that much difference. That's surely many hundreds of pounds expenditure without any noticeable gains in power. I mean what power does it run already? And how much more will it run with such a tiny increase?
Hey, you do what you like... it's your money... like I said, I'm just curious, not critical.

The 2.7 is a high comp engine. Once the 2.8 is built it will be a low comp so I can reduce the charger pully = more power. That's the plan any way. The bhp is 324 as it stands so hoping for more, I would be happy at 400. Taking in to account this car will be lighter hence quicker
Clive.
