I believe you can get decent power out of any engine with enough time and money spent on it, my issue with the M20 isnt that you cant do so, its that the damn thing has so much weight, and especially of benefit with a 4 cylinder swap is that its the front two cylinder that you lose, moving the centre of gravity backwards, to me thats a great idea, and BMW would seem to agree as thats what they did with the E30 M3 anyway!

I talk to martin hadland from time to time, will try and remember to ask him a bit about the specifics of the E36 cossie at some point, annoyingly i was actually sat with him yesterday chatting away and completely forgot about the subject of BMW's at the time, doh!

i can help you with specific problems on the e30, although i didnt carry out the work myself i was kept informed all the way, and i only got mine back 2 months ago
.and the mechanic did moan a lot about various problems.

what box does yours use, the beemer one or a cossie T5?

just read your siganture which says what box!
same way i would do it
standard box for the engine + custom prop
as opposed to custom bellhousing for the box and a standard prop

SR20DET had cast pistons and rods, so it cant (in standard form) handle either lots of rpm or lots of boost.weegaz22 wrote:personally if it was me i would use an sr20det engine and box, cheaper to buy than the cossie and probably just as cheap to tune(Ԛ£1000 quid will get you around 280bhp), chain driven cams as well so nice and strong
Very expensive engine to get decent power from, on a cossie you can get 380 on a totally standard engine with just a change of chip/injectors/turbo, you wont get anywhere near that on a SR20DET without spending a lot of money.

id be happy with the 280-300bhp, still plenty reliable
