Very well as it happens. the new rims are on, i've sorted the rear panel (small blister in the paint), the woods in the bin and the ipod kits in.

just the dash pixels to sort, engine bay to clean and it's about there.

Oh and when the f*cking DVLA finally find and sort my retention certificate out I can finally assign UAW737 to it

Trev, there is a chap in Southampton that fixes them for £80. If you drive down he'll even take the cluster out for you etc. I am yet to do it, as it doesn't offend me and the low OBC shows everything anyway.

Yes, everyone has been amazed with his service. People ringing up and going round his house 2 hours later to have it fixed in 30 minutes. As well as fixing the fault permenantly.

BTW Trev,having laid blue 5 up earlier in the year,I ressurected it yesterday..................again.................another 6 months before any chance of it being scrapped

And BTW,just to cheer you up after me giving you that bad news,I bought my boy a Corgi R5 at a bootsale,and I've taught him to refer to it as "Rubbish"!

Spent the weekend detailing the paint and outside and it's virtually there now. The rims are on with new conti's on the back and I have to say................it's now looking more like one of my own cars!!

So, we are 1 year on and I thought I'd update you with what a year with a 530i mSport is REALLY like.

I'll state now that despite all of the below, I'm still loving it. It's now up to 103k, so 10k in a year ain't too bad.

Windback to just before Xmas and the final stage resistor threw a wobbler. Got out the car, locked it. "whats that noise?" Heater fan still running. So had to disconnect the battery overnight and Barry (BSS325i) brought a new genuine one home from work (£67). And the fault promptly rectified itself

Then the PDC started throwing a constant tone as soon as reverse was selected. This was during the snow so I left it as was until I got a chance to look at it. When the snow cleared, it rectified itself

During the deep snow in January, I got lazy one morning and thought" 4 inches of snow? wipers'll clear that". Did they f*ck! they jammed and from then on the wipers just had a mind of their own. Did some research, came up with the brown double relay so replaced it. The same Lived with it for a while until:

Service time came around. Barry to the rescue again, booked it in on a Saturday for me and completed an Oil service and the all important gearbox filter oil change. These are sealed for life boxes and I have to say, 100k on the same oil just mystifies me. While it was on the ramp, Barry cleared any codes and drilled down on the wiper fault. Came up with the return sensor on the motor. Service was £240 in total and I ordered a new wiper motor @ £220 and once fitted, all was

Then the final stage resistor went completely so the new one was fitted.

Then I smelt a whiff of coolant. Opened the bonnet and the fan had flicked coolant up the air filter and p/s resovoir. Nothing drastic but allegedly, you don't want to cook one of these . So a pump was ordered along with a new serpentine belt (via Barry again!!!) @ £92 for both and fitted.

A new screen was fitted as it was in a bad state and chipped. Then it cracked in the frost so insuance sorted it. God I love a new screen

Then I smelt coolant!!! The top hose plastic section was split. I can't tell you if it was that all along but at least it's had a pump now . £26 for the top hose.

Now due a set of pads which I bought. Full set of Pagids from ECP at just over 70 quid ain't too bad. Just need to fit them.

Plans??? Just bought an HID kit for it. Straight plug and play they say! Yeah right. Spent last night fiddling and farting to get one to fit a spare angel eye headlight. I'll get there in the end.

So there you go. A bit of expense but all in all it could have been worse. Imagine the expense if I'd paid BMW labour rates!!!!!

103k now. It is really clean condition wise. I washed it the other day, dressed the tyres and cleaned the rims properly. I took the daughter out to friends and as I walked out of their house the sun was glinting off the car. It looked brand new. Even I was impressed!!!!!

Sounds a fairly good year for a 100k e39 trev. Similar ish to mine, I put a thread up somewhere.

My hedgehog gave up the ghost in the cold weather as well. Either no fan or full with the keys out. Nice.

I don't hang about in it TBO but the OBC never reads an average of under 22mpg.

Over about 7 months of general use (and never resetting it) it read 24.5. And thats every type of journey going. Long trips, town work etc.

On a run to Devon at 5pm on a friday evening (fair bit of traffic) it returned 29mpg. Best I've had on a run is just over 32mpg.

They are a big step in the right direction economy wise to an M20 but on a par with a good M50 /52 2.5? Considering the step up in torque and power, it don't do bad!

Sounds similar to my mpg. Average over months and months is strangely 24.5mpg as well. Longer journeys it is better, perhaps up to 29, but not really 32. The manual must help a bit I think.

Thats not bad at all, the M50 in my 525 touring does about 20mpg average, 25 on a run, 30 is impossible, some owners on the 5 forum reckon they get 30+ but they are either coasting between petrol stations or talking shit IMO

Mixed thoughts really

The Bulb adaptors appear to be the wrong ones. They have an additional ear that clashes with the headlight bulb apperture which I have had to cut off. They'd fit the main beam a treat though . And while fitting the offside one I have now cracked the bulb holder so I will be tackling "HIDs Direct" re the issue.

Also theres a lot of wiring thats included thats not required. so I've cut that away and now the cars loom plugs straight to the HID module and theres just 2 wires to the HID bulb, so doing away with another loom they supplied to behind the HID sealing grommet.

I suppose I may be asking a lot from a kit of sub 100 quid? Maybe I should bite the bullet and buy genuine BMW Xenon headlamps

Went for the OEM 4300k set up to save on any councilness. Heres the difference:

Heres the car with Halogen H7 bulbs. Not I do not mention "standard" as these are already the Halfords super white nonsense bulbs at £25 each and are supposed to be considerably brighter than normal. They do improve the lighting it has to be said. But not 50 quids worth of improvement it has to be said.

Why did you choose to buy a 35W kit as opposed to a 50W kit though?

I fitted 50W 4300K to my brothers E39 and they're alot brighter than the 4300K 35W i have fitted on my e30.

I also had the same issue with the adaptors...i just snapped the tab off aswell, but it makes it much harder to tighten them without it.
