Distributor. BL used a cheap and nasty Lucas copy of a V8 Rolls Royce unit with twin points. Add a bit of spindle wear and the ignition timing is all over the place and Stags were not very fogiving of this. Cue a holed piston or two, but cured with a Lumenition kit.

The Stag V8 has been 'sorted', but it would always be like a reformed serial killer because you could never trust it 100%.
Standard Triumph used an AC Delco distributor on the stag, not the Lucas one that Rolls Royce used. The Lucas item WAS used by Daimler, for their two V8 engines. The Rolls and the Daimler engines have the same firing order, Stag engine has a different firing order. The distributor caps are not interchangable,as living very close to Rimmer Bros and being an ex Daimler V8 owner I descovered to my cost... winkeye

Rimmer Bros? The ECP company for Triumph Rover etc. Agreed they are a bunch of t0ssers. When I was into Triumphs the arguments I had with then over parts that did not even resemble the original let alone work like it. All they ever sold me was crap. Just like ECP with my e30 really!

Some Volvo applications used an SU carburettor or two. They always ran oddly and had a strange off beat sound to them, as well as being gutless and horribly unreliable. They were a nightmare for head gaskets and timing chain issues, just a pile of French shit basically but the later ones in The Renner 25 and Volvo 760 weren't bad. There is a pretty good Wikipedia article about it.
The Volvo 760 with the 2.8 V6 and an auto box (no manual option) was a soggy old pudding of a thing. My old man had one once, he traded it in for a 760 turbo as soon as he could. In Gold. Not everything about the 80s was good :)

The triumph 2.5 engine is very tunable,I had a PI with tripple 40DCOEs, SAH exhaust with a 6 branch,Jigsaw racing big valve haed (10.5;1 comp) Triumptune cam(unknown duration)Lightend and balanced ect..and it made 210bhp at the fly!!
All the parts are still available from Jigsaw racing, along with poly bushes and cooilovers...
I also had a dolly sprint with similar power but the PI was more of an animal.
The only thing I would not recomend with tuning triumphs is putting a garret T3 on a vitesse with twin metro turbo carbs....because they crash easily.... :(
