I'm trying to decide whether to enter the 325i autoschlaag with the cracked head..

only issue is 300+ miles is a long way from home with a buggered gearbox...

who reckons I should?

don't do it, the only way to "launch" an auto properly involves "lunching" the gearbox!

I'm there and hoping for a good time in the Alpina C2 2.7 touring, see if an original has the grunt to see off the home/DIY builds :)

probably a good idea I won't be allowed to run then :)

Bad enough turning up in rice, let alone getting served up on the strip, 14.9 is the best i've seen out of it at York

Pussy!

Is the box dodgy?

If not, then you don't have to 'launch' it.. Just floor it off the line..

A fuel leak on a pipe.

A tyre.

And a bulb.

i hope it's not a fuel leak of the rusty tank filler pipe type!

thing is in an auto Neil you will post the same times everytime up the strip, so rev it in N to the limiter then slam it into 1, it'll kill the box quick but you might get a few runs first!

the way to get a decent launch with a porridge box is to hold it on the brake and as the stage lights are on and you know the geezer is going to give you the ambers, is to give it some gas and hold the revs at about 2000 with it in D or 1. You don't want to do this for long, but it means it will get up and go off the line and if you are sensible with the throttle you shouldn't light up the rears.

Like me getting buster off the line here, I owned the first 60ft :) , we won't mention the rest

Given teh fact that the rocker cover looks like the Hellmans factory just now, I fear a bottle of K seal and coolant/oil change will be the closest it gets to racing...
