Big engines are only small knob compensators anyway!

I'm building a 2.7 for mine, I must be hung like a pidgeon.

For me, the money I would be prepared to spend on a 14 year old plus car wouldn't get me a reasonable 325i but it did get me a nice 320i SE.

Think of all the poor germans with their base model 315's then

I've been driving an E reg 320 round and it's quite a fun car. The engine does have an issue with fuel consumption though. The performance, whilst deceptively "quite good", is not good enough to justify 25mpg. Maybe this is a bad example, beacause the best I've ever managed was 30mpg from it, by doing a steady 75mph on the mway.

I think that with reasonable tyres and some decent springs/dampers then the 320 makes a good Ԛ£500 car. I've been looking on Ebay and there's always 320s going for that sort of money.

It would be better wouldn't it? then we wouldn't have to talk about naff 316,318,320's then :tongue2:
But don't you feel slightly envious when M3 owners belittle your mere 325??

There is no snobbbery it's all facts
M3s are better than 325s....that's a fact...loser!

And whats this about the 320 being better than the 318 by miles!!! BIG UP THE 4 POTS!!

Well!

THERE IS ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH

Having said that... I have respect for many BMW's especially E30 M3, 318is and 320is, and 325!

I only have one princip... buy top of the line, otherwise you are always on the look out for a better car!

How comes most of the problems with head gaskets seem to be assosiated with the 325 :?

I think the 320's will be rolling along long after all those 325's are in the breakers yard or they've had the 2.7 conversion because i wanted more power (yeah right).

320's a good old work horse that the E30 was built around.
still no denying the 318 tourer i had was just as quick.

As for the best sounding engine you just can not beat the Rolls Royce Merlin in a Spitfire (plane, not the car) If you think otherwise then i can quite honestly say your ears don't work.

Err what would you expect from a 15-20 year old car 25mpg for a 2.0 six is bloody good for a car from that era.

And yes I have a 320i with chrome bumpers as well !! Just so I don't follow the herd

320's arnt bad cars, not at all.Although if i had the choice i wouldnt have one. For me id say its a kind of 'useless' inbetween car, from a 318is and a 325 sport. Not to say its useless as a car, but the IS makes 135(ish) bhp as standard, with a chip, TB, good filter etc you can match a 325 sport up untill you reach high speeds. And the 325 has 170ish bhp as standard with a fair bit of torque. So if i had the choice id have either one of those.

Although id quite happily drive a nice 320! If ones going for free.....

Mine was almost free and I'm happy with it. I've had 325's anyway and my old 528i wastes 'em
:drive:

The 320 is a nice revvy little engine, sounds sweet and isn't a mobile roadblock. And for an open diff'd car it drifts pretty good :burn: and all sorts of antisocial behaviour

i can afford the petrol so iԚ´ll live with it until i change the lump or sell this and get a 2.5

nuffin wrong with a 2, but its true they arnԚ´t as powerfull as a 2.5. not worth getting all fussed about though, still get some knob in a turbo diesel burnin us up at the lights

you know if uԚ´re happy with it then thats all that matters, and if its not enough then do what uԚ´ve gotta do :?

320i threads are always so funny!

Its like they were bullied at school or something, for not being quite right...don't have the fuel eco of a four pot or the speed of a 25...

Why is it the 320 that always get bullied? We never have threads about how bad the 316i m40 is do we? This means there must be some truth lurking somewhere....

I have no clue as i have never even been in one!
