I've got a waterproof microphone coming so I can video my Nurburgring trip so when it arrives I'll use that to make a clip. The exhaust sounds much better under load than just revving itbillgatese30 wrote:yeah, sorry Iain, anyway,

Simon, much easier to undo 1 nut and jack the engine up than fanny about removing 12 studs that were tightened in.

The btb 6 branch gets deeper aswell, done about 400 miles with mine and its getting more bass now.
Well pleased with it, so addicted to the sound you just wanna red line it everywhere
Many thanks Sal for the btb and Simon for fitting it
Just wondering what can if anything can be done about the low end loss in power?
Not too bothered as ive got used to driving it more like a 16 valver
Will have to see if i can get a sound clip together.

Oz,
A remap will help towards getting some low end torque back.
Look forward to hearing the car!

To be fair i am quite happy with the performance as it is for now allthough you can never have too much power its fine for the time being.
I thought about cam but i thought this would only give more power further up the rev range once again same situation.
Remap would be cool but can this be done considerering i have a tech1/early engine managment system?
All of the above are over £400

Or there is the later management on the early engines, a few bits needed but supposed to work well plus you can get a Zone chip too!

Correction - there are gains, the low end torque is more - I've driven Adam Patchton's 2.8 and while it doesn't make huge power top end it certainly beats a 2.7 for low end grunt and midrange power.Simon13 wrote:more work for no gains over 2.7M5pilot wrote:OK, 2.8 M52 Crank based then

Just fitted a BTB 6 branch to a zoners car but with a difference. The downpipes are made to fit BTB's single pipe system which is also on the car now.
I've not heard anything like it! The GUG (which resides in ireland now) is also getting the same 6 branch and exhaust fitted. Should go alot better than it did before with the blown scorpion and the old manifold.
Ant is coming over tommorrow to do some work and we will attempt to make a video clip.
BTB's stuff is pure class if a little expensive.

i've been in Adam's car and that just isn't true. Infact it went very well but didn't pull like a good 2.7
Maybe Adam's car would of been better if bexleys hadn't cocked the maf up.
How can u honestly think that a manifold made by btb can be better than a firm like Racing Dynamic's?
I'll have the two manifolds next to each other 2moro, i'm sure the bore size on the btb is smaller for a start.
Iain why didn't u fit bigger valves to 2.5 head?!

You've not driven Adam's car, you've been in it. You've not even driven karan's car......I have. The Silver C2 had more grunt than karan's cr and patchton's has more low end than that.Simon13 wrote:i've been in Adam's car and that just isn't true. Adam complains about the MAF conversion because of it's poor cold starts which has no effect on performance once warmed up - get your facts straight.
I'm in a better position to you to comment on this. The only real experience you have of a 2.7 is your own 180bhp version (with RD manifold - I wonder what it does without).
Since when did bore size mean everything in manifold design? BTB actually said the Bore size of the RD was too big. Joe (owner of BTB) is a highly respected individual in the autmotive industry. BTB have a fantastic reputation amongst engineers also.
The ONLY reasons you have issues with BTB are:
1) I sell their stuff and your anti Sal/E30zoneshop and everyone knows it.
2) You don't have one
3) Everything you have automatically becomes better than everything else.

Would upgrading slightly to the newer engine management be that much better than the older style one or just easyer tune?fozzymonster wrote:or Ms in alpha N mode and no maf either!stonesie wrote:MS with a maf conversionRemap would be cool but can this be done considerering i have a tech1/early engine managment system?

If your going to do anything get rid of the AFM. You can't do a MAF conversion with your current management anyway.
MS running simple Throttle Angle with barometric will see a massive transformation in throttle reponse, noise and power.
You may lose even more low end torque though as losing the AFM for a hollow tube will further slow down intake airspeed.
I'll be able to explain practically when the C2 comes back from paint shop (if owner is around to give me keys.)

For a start bigger valves would not fit in the 525e piston pockets without having them machined.Simon13 wrote:Iain why didn't u fit bigger valves to 2.5 head?!
I use the car as a daily driver so I couldn't afford or be arsed to have the car off the road for a week or so so I could strip the engine again and have the machining work done.
Also bigger valves would mean a more peaky/revvy engine which I don't want.
Cheers,
Iain T

i got a full exhaust system made by BTB for GUG. the gains are impressive to say the least, here are a few snaps before i put the system on about a month ago... single bore system now replaces the standard dual system...

quality outfit, big thanks to sal for helping me out with this system!
