The carpet hides the ariel unit I don't think it is a requirement personally but I bow down to Pacer and B7's superior knowledge
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

It's a Tech 1, it should not be difficult to make a hole in the roof

Sorry its upside down I'm getting lazy![]()
But even then it's not central in the panel width proving theres no science in it. Few were I reckon.

I have a pdf. file of the complete BMW fitting instructions for the radio aerial.
The correct position is 25mm from the inner edge of the boot opening, and 50mm back from the front edge of the boot opening. Hole diameter is 22mm.
Put masking tape on top of the wing for marking out and drilling, remove the tape, debur, and treat the bare metal with zinc paint.

Know the 'feeling' Trev,I have to work from memory these days,so often take a step back and end up with wet feet.....diable wrote:B7 wrote:I'd have measured mine but I ain't seen it for months!!! And before anyone chips in, my c0ck!!!! not my E30
Back on topic, just measured up my ariel position on the cabbie, with a ruler positioned as shown above, mine is two inches from the corner of the boot lid front edge....establishing Trev's POV that there is no 'correct' place, just an approximate position.
If I were in the OP's position,I would be following Pete's advice,frankly.

i dont quite understand that ? where would that be in relation to the one in the pic above ? (does that mean 50mml from the back corner so it would be more to the right in that pic ?Brianmoooore wrote:I have a pdf. file of the complete BMW fitting instructions for the radio aerial.

It is coming out though this year. I've been invited to this:

Turns out that the chief exec of International Motorsports Ltd is the husband of a good friend of my wifes. And he likes to see a cross section of stuff at the event, not all 246gt's and 911's. So when I asked if they were sure they didn't mind a young german wippernapper nipping at their heels he felt that was what was needed.

Take a right angle from the line of the side of the boot opening, and measure from where the right angle intersects the curved bit in the corner. About 3mm further forwards than diable has measured from.

Brian is suggesting that you measure from the boot opening,NOT the position of the bootlid,as is shown on the photo.
Woohoo!
According to Brian's measurements,my cabbie's ariel is spot on the factory's position!

I'm not suggesting anything! These are BMW's official instructions used by their dealer monkeys, are incredibly detailed, leaving nothing that might require a bit of common sense.daimlerman wrote:Brian is suggesting that you measure from the boot opening,NOT the position of the bootlid,as is shown on the photo.

Measure from the pink line.
FFS,it's come to something when we go to three pages just to position a bloody radio ariel...stick the bugger in the roof and get better reception and be pretty much vandal free!
