The ZFs from the E36 328/3L M3 or some of the E34s are much nicer to shift with if you really want to change it.
That redline stuff makes a big difference though!

Getrag boxes are always abit notchy anyway. I've a E46 M3 box with only 20 odd thousand miles on it and its a tiny bit notchy too when cold etc.

its the e36 328/m3 box im strongly thinking of changing to mate, i would imagine that not only would they feel silky smooth in comparison but be strong as ox's to.!
waiting on some coin to come my way now so this will most prob be on my to do list along with e46 rack conversion
i would get my 300 sheets back for my 3.64 lsd wouldnt i??....

Yep, 3.64 is easily worth that.
You'd pick up a ZF box for about a 100 quid or so. Finding a 328 prop to go with it can be difficult though and then the matching diff.
Of course, you could change to an M3 Evo box. not quite as smooth as a 5 speed ZF but stronger than an M42 box and lots of fun if you keep the 3.64
