I would imagine the Baur cost more in the long run ???
A Baur could be ordered straight from the BMW dealer. And you're right, they were a bit more expensive then the normal cab.

Here the optionlist from my own 325iX Baur:
296 TD-LM/200/60x365 TD -> wheels
311 ELEKTRISCHER BEIFAHRERSPIEGEL -> electric mirror on the passenger side
350 WAERMESCHUTZGLAS GRUEN, RUNDUM -> green glass
800 Konv. Abgastechnik -> normal exhaust (no katalysator)
829 CABRIOUMBAU-VORBEREITUNG -> Baur TC-conversion preparation.

This preparation meant that it was delivered at Baur without the rearwindows and rooflining.

The conversion costed in the Netherlands a half 316(i). This meant that in the Netherlands (1987) a 325i Baur costet €31.000+€6500=36.500,-. A normal cab €35.500,-

And the 325iX about the same price as a normal 325i Cab...so you could have a fully loaded 325iC for the price of a 325iX Baur.

I think the mean reason to buy a Baur then was safety. And in Germany because they are insured as being a normal coach.

They clearly saw the baur owners (to be) coming from a mile off, and added 'devaincy premium' to the price! :D

One of the nicest Baurs I've seen was a 318is converted. Lovely thing in white, a zoners car, but I forget the name.
