I still remember the day I came down and I had to watch a hung over Garath change the rims over. They really are very heavy compared to BBS wheels and all agree affect the handling negativly however yours is only a 1.8 isn't it? shouldn't make to much of a difference in performance when you have none. So if you like the looks stick with them, I only got rid because I had a better set of wheels, I actually verymuch like the look they fill the e30 arches perfectly.
I have always prefered the look of them to BBS or even orignal 16" pinas.
I think Josh has done a great job wth that car and the 17's do work well in that style with a tech 2.
