It's impressive that some people have the patience to restore a shell that's gone as bad as that, rather than just taking the easy option of weighing it in and looking for another.

Moving on with some progress today. Decided to grind the bodging patches out of the roof that i had tacked in earlier and go the full monty with sunroof cartridge removal as im doing a non sunroof conversion.. This wasnt a nice job to do.

grinded the inner edge of the cartridge out, and that is blue tac where someones tried to stop a leak

front half out, its easier than trying to gring it all out in one go.

this has left a nice lip to weld my large patch to

next i set about the rear half, so chopped the tray away here ON BOTH SIDES AND AT THE REAR.(panel facing the floor)

nearly there

was left with this big horrible bit stuck down on each side.

so chopped it away nice and tidy. will grind it right down tomorrow.

this was well earned. still impressed with the leg room in this thing

Tomorrow the grinding away and welding starts.

Ok so here goes, another 5 hours work, got all corrosion chopped out and patches welded into roof, i knocked the roof down with a big hammer
after cutting the rot away so the patches dont stand proud and wont be seen after fibreglass and a small amount a filler.

Home fabricated sunroof panel, made larger all round and bent downwards at the sides so can be slotted in perfectly and welded to the original roof lip on the roof from underneath.

rough idea of how much bigger it is before welding the corners up for strengh

slotted into place, a near perfect fit first time which made me very happy.
i can make these to order if anybody is interested. Probs around £30 quid plus postage.

more to follow when i get my sight and hearing back after much grinding and welding.
