Hole, as in holes in the top of the tank? Pretty sure it is 2 holes, can't remember what was under the passenger side access panel though, only took it off once quite a while ago, I'll have a look in the morning and find out

Brianmooore recomends thumping a dodgy fuel pump to spark them back to life for a while. :)

It does sound like something along those lines, very strange. Going to put a couple more gallons of fuel in the car over the weekend, although there is definitely around 10 litres of fresh fuel in the tank at the moment

I'll get the lump hammer out the shed then! Think I might just get a new fuel pump to rule it out, the car has done 168,000 miles and the pump could possibly still be the original.

I was joking! ;) Its strange as the fuel pump was fine with the old m20 engine in, but the m30 engine has never ran right. When it started for the first time tonight the engine ran really well though before it stalled, the best it has ran since the conversion

Very true Rav, the pump may have been fine for the 2litre but not for the 3.5litre. Will order another pump anyway tomorrow and see how that works

Fuel pump should be here Tuesday, I really hope that solves the runnung issues!

I think I'm jinxed with BMW's at the moment, went to go round my mate's house this afternoon in my touring and think the headgasket has gone

Fuel pump was the wrong one  If the fuel pump provides enough fuel to start and run, but then stalls after a bit, then surely the pump would be ok? Unless maybe it is starting to seize up? Going to take the fuel pump out of my touring and try it in the m30'd car and see if that makes a difference.

Tested the blue temp sensor resistance, that was in spec, going to check all the wriring in the c101 again to make sure.

At least it isn't the head gasket that has gone on my touring, so that is one bit of good news!

How long does it run for, what happens if you rev it?

+1 its half hour job to swap the pumps over. 8)

Are you getting fuel at the rail when cranking? are the pipes on the right way round. :)

I take it your getting a spark?

Pipes are on the right way round, the car has run as it is but now refuses to start. As soon as I get a chance I will see if I'm still getting a spark and still getting fuel at the rail.

This car is really frustrating me, I've got no time to play about with it but I want to take it for a drive so badly!

Got a bit of money saved up now so going to start replacing all the sensors starting with the crank sensor to see if that gets the car running properly!

Just confirm the fuel feed is going to the fuel rail and not to the fuel pressure regulator?

Ive got a good CPS (my old one) you can try before you shell out on one? I could send you my spark plug testing device too. :)

Thanks for the offer Lee, although I think I'm just going to get a new one and put that on and it's done then. Not planning on getting rid of the car for a long time so think it's worth spending the money on :)

John, the car has ran before (although not very well!) so the fuel supply and ignition were both working. But now there is no spark, but the plugs are all wet with fuel when cranking the engine over.

I've got a spare one to try Rav :)

Also, I forgot that I tested the CPS resistance again the other evening, and the resistance was lower than when I measured it a few months back, could this just be because the temperature is quite a bit lower now?

Crank sensor and blue temp sensor ordered today, should have time to fit them Saturday afternoon, along with the spare coil and see what happens! :)

Wish I could just get the thing running! Had a moment a few weeks ago where I thought I'd had enough of it and wanted to get rid, but then looked through my build thread at what I've done so far and it has given back my enthusiasm to get the fooker running properly!

Are you getting 12v at the coil terminal?

Yep, still getting 12v at the coil with ignition on. Have fitted the blue temp switch, haven't had time to swap the coil and CPS yet though.

Lee, what did you gap the CPS to trigger wheel at? Haynes manual says 1mm +/- 0.3mm, sound about right?

CPS can be a pita to feed the wire through to the socket. :( Yes for once Haynes is correct. :) make sure when you do the clearance that one of the teeth on the trigger wheel meets the centre of the CPS.
