If he hasn't had a sniff in 12 months and all four seasons have been and gone, it is obviously too much money.Andyboy wrote:He did nick it for a bag. But another mate has an 01 W 1.9 in black that's had everything done: HG, shocks, brakes, bones, sub mounts etc. Not a sniff at 2300 for 12 months. Just the wrong time to sell?
I rate Z3s. They drive well, they are relatively simple and straightforward , and while no oil painting, they do not look like £700 of council scrap like your average E36 convertible.
I would much prefer one to a rusty MX5 or shudder, the literally steaming pile of poo that is the MGF.
All of the above makes it a bit confusing to why they are so hard to sell

Simply because they are expensive to insure, expensive to run and not very practical.

theres nothing expensive about running a Z3 Andrew. We've run ours for over 4 years with the 2.8 so i feel i can comment fairly on this.
Very reliable cars in every aspect
Very reliable cars in every aspect
why not put the 2.8 from the silver non-mover into the c2 and break the rest of the z3 over the winter? this should / may raise enough money for the c2 unit re-build and puts the c2 back on the road in the mean time.
i saw a doctor and she gave me some pills....

Paul in short nooooooooooooo way! Bottom end will get rebuilt on the stand, bolt the head on and i shall crane it into the bay. Bolt the box on from underneath and fit the rest and pray it all goes ok 2nd time round.

Well its too cold to work so its time to get on with the final push.....

First time its been out probably for a year i reckon. Not all the way as its too heavy for me to push back in on my own

i am bolting the interior all in bascially get it in a decent state

Bolted the battery back on and everything that was working before still is
alarm, windows, lights etc
So it looks like a car without an engine which is what it is basically.
Time is now officially against me as my wife is due with our first sprog June 28th or there abouts. If shes like our school friend then it could be 4-5 weeks early and i only have 4 months.
Which is to get it running, MOT'd and balls to the rest of it. I can sort everything else once the baby arrives and i have some time spare once things settle down. I know i've always taken the approach of trying to do things the way to this but I've got no hope otherwise i feel?

These two will be a right good pair
RE engine i've got a good 88 casting head spare i need to strip down to get clean get the guides checked replaced and then off for some headwork.
I've got a new set of rings and rod bolts on order from the dealer. Once they are here i can get it all balanced again, then rebuild the bottom end.

That's exactly what I thought when I read it last night! I hope he doesn't have to sell any of them but the spare time thing made me laugh! I find what happens is when you DO get some spare time there are so many other "more important" DIY/Odd jobs/loose ends that the cars just sit.Gert_8 wrote:![]()
New baby. Spare time? This is what I predict - both of those chariots will be up for sale in the next 5 years. First dibs on the C2, please (provided the engine's back in and running, of course).

PS. Congrats.
You will love having a sprog though, shitty nappies and sleepless nights, mint!
Seriously though Congratulations
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Needs a wash bert!
My advice? Get cracking as spare time with kids? Your p1ssing in the wind!!
However, when they are very newborn, you can grab time here and there as they sleep at weird times and have a major routine so you know where you are. Be prepared for interuptions though
Once they start crawling and walking? Forget it as it's eyes in the back of your head time.
And then school. After school clubs, sports clubs, birthday parties (and in a class of say 20 it's some f*ckers birthday it seems every weekend!!!) and then homework. Oh god, homework!!!
Cast you mind back to when you were at school and your poor mum and dad running the griffiths taxi service???
I reckon you've got till it's born then a year to detail and sort out the odd jobs.
Can you tell what it is yet? Or do you not want to know the sex?

16-17 weeks gone, we don't want to know the gender. Spoils it it i think. Theres 8 boys in my family so if it was a girl it will be a superstar, but you just prepare for a boy as thats what they've all had!
I can understand about spare time or lack of it. Maybe i didn't get my thoughts across well enough. With the car moving under its own steam will be the deal winner. Pinching an hour here or there to piss about cleaing a steering wheel or fitting some front speakers is easy and i can stop it and leave it any time.
Trying to get out with an engine crane or bolting a prop/exhaust on isn't going to happen. I've been baby sitting my sisters 2 boys more nights than i care to remember so am aware in some respects as to how my life is going to end change!
Anyhow i pinched some time to help keep the ball rolling with the 2nd head for the 2nd rebuild!

This is a standard 88 casting BMW head. One of my two spares. This head was fitted to the car when i bought it and had supposedly been overhauled in the past.

Valves out, i'd say it has been overhauled. The valve seats look fresh recently re cut imo.

Reem and sleeving action. Nothing new here but its very strange for the inlet side to need this sort of work. Its always the exhaust valve guides that take a battering. Now they feel tight like they might of been changed. Nothing like the guides where in the old PYF head which where replaced

Now this is wierd, some retard stuck the valve seat down to the head?!?! looks like aroldite or something. I can't for the love of me work out why someone would do this? its only on the inlet side also

came off easy enough though

Thats what it normally looks like
I'm going to take it to the old mans machine shop let the old hands cast their eyes over it and go from there. Then probably get the inlet guides changed and the exhuast ones checked. Then it will be off for the headwork.........

We made the decision to find out the sex, only as we flt we could name it nd refer to the bump as a person. Also allowed us to decorate and ge clothes, etc. in readiness.
What you doing with Shrick Si? Buying another. Has AUTOMACHELMET come up with anything?

no still got the faulty schrick, sitting on the desk next to me. Its all over with regarding auto mac and schrick, moved on now. I'm going to get a vernier pulley and take it to Roland Allsop to "dial" it in. Which i'm sure will yeild a running engine then.
I'll build the bottom end again but if they end up building the head, setting the cam up and torquing the head down valve clearances etc so be it. Saves me some work! I can crane the bare engine in then and go for it

For what it's worth si, and I know its little consolation, I was chatting to someone the other day about your issues with the shrick and both of us agree there is something odd with it, even if it was fitted in the "correct" hole then your piston to valve minimum clearances seem a little odd, it's like the "correct" hole is still 5-10 degrees out.
Personal/professional opinion - if I had been building that I would have questioned the timing when I checked the piston to valve clearances.

/\ your right it ran just......but had inlet valve to piston contact. My thoughts would be to time it up in this position and use the vernier to get or dial it up right. My guess is i hope the vernier has enough adjustment in it to make it run/turn over right and theres no contact?
If not i'll be getting the alpina cam quicker off you!

Baby arrived, this wasn't done, and an e46 B3s has arrived rebuilt the engine on that, the e34 B10 killed a turbo and its clutch also since the last update.
So a busy year still but not for this C2. Alas the god of work has given me some funds and with no itch to buy a motor i shall give this a crack for engine build number 2, this might be the cars 4th rebuild
The block like the head has been sat at the machine shop since Jan this year. Its been rehoned so now the bottom end is ready for assembly again.
Head is nearly done and ready for porting work. Then the fun can begin, its not far off really is it
