the bloody red light came on months ago gareth, i told my girlfriend it was an (erroneous) brake pad warning and to stop moaning about it. then i got in it yesterday and the brakes felt all nasty. it soon transpired that there was bugger all brake fluid in there, the brakes were running mainly on air and a rear wheel cylinder is sweating a bit lol

i think that makes me a 'cowboy'

Those guages look great Toby, it's given me the kick up the arse to get them sorted.

Charlie, nice work on the exhuast, it was the part of the conversion which frustrated me most, and my exhaust system is still crap! I'm torn between making a single 2.5" pipe system, or getting an M3 centre section with no silencer and having a flange made up to go on the downpipes.

Gareth, my 335 also failed on CO emissions at first. I fiddled with the screw on the AFM - no change. New spark plugs, Air filter and replaced ecu temp sensor with one which worked properly. STILL no change. So I pulled the exhaust probe out and it passed straight away

Have you guys got nothing better to do

Washed the car and took a few piccy's, there a bit crap as I couldn't be bothered to take the car somewhere nice (well more like I've now had a beer)

Manky black bonnet left on for now just to check engine/bonnet clearance

Image

Pina's will be coming off to make way for the black with silver lip 15" BBS

Image

Guess where my washer bottle came from?? 325 rad currently fitted complete with kinked hose :? I've had no issues at all with the cooling system, temp stays stable at just under half and gives out nice hot air in the cabin very quickly..

Image

Image

Temporary fan switch next to the heating controls, I'm surprised at how little you actual need a fan..

Image

Rest of interior to go back in... at some point

Image

Anyway I'm off to spend a bit of time with the missus.... she's been a little neglected this week :| :nono: any of you guys going to Gaydon??

Fantastic stuff guys! :D

Just got home from zorbing (might put some pics up in 'Pub Talk') and had plenty to read here!

Gareth - I did warn you about my comedy diff! :chuckle: Your 3.38:1 ratio sounds interesting, please keep us updated!

Toby - guages look great, they are already on my turbo conversion shopping list!

Charlie - Very tidy install, well done! My car won't have turbo by Santa Pod. Not this year anyway, will be a standard engine!

I did practice a second gear emergency start last weekend. Nice big wavey number 11 about 100 yards long!

Glad I could help Gareth! :)

I should have made a sound recording of that diff, it reminded me a bit of the straight cut gearboxes I used to use on Minis! :D

Your diffs sound very interesting, I'll be keeping an eye on that thread! :D

Talking of diffs, i swapped mine and i'm going to sell the 3.64LSD but the zone suddenly has loads of them for sale over the last couple of weeks, not good for getting a decent price for mine :(

I'd be best off sticking it on ebay ?

Stick it on ebay mate with a buy it now price, I bet it goes quickly :D I tend to do most of my selling on ebay as you tend to get a better price on there. It can't hurt to advertise on here aswell though...

Started pulling my old 2dr apart  I'll miss the car so much I'm transferring the reg over to the tourer. Zinnober red 2 dr saloon is all grown up now in the guise of a zinnober red tourer winkeye

This is the state it's in now.. two bolts and it's all out :D

Image

Managed to get a complete top and bottom gasket set so will completly strip the engine down and replace every single gasket & seal.. may even treat it to a lick of paint. Got to work out if I can adapt my M20 air con bracket to fit the M30 engine..

Engine will be out tomorrow, I've got this week and next to get it all back together before going back to work..

Bit of an update, been busy replacing most gasket's and seal's and giving it a good clean and a bit of VHT paint. Just got to replace the rear crank seal. To my joy it looks like it's had a replacement head including all new rockers/cam shaft etc at somepoint before I brought it.

Managed to modify the M30 air con bracket including a spacer for the lower part to use the standard M20 aircon compressor(cheers marc :thumb:) I would have used the M30 compressor but it's all recently been regassed

Image

Going to book a couple of days of next month to get it into the tourer winkeye

turn it into a high comp 8)

I had thought about the skim but after seeing the other thread with the 1mm skim and now having major problems made me a bit skeptical - most probably not related but you just never know.
Long term plan will be to eventually have a turbo/supercharger so lower compression will be my friend :D
