The dyno will be along way off as ive got to swop the engine yet and run it in.

Next on the list is get some lights, then tidy it up and drive it for abit to run the charger in and iron out any teething problems :D

Sounds throaty, but from listening to that clip it sounds like the pipework is too long. :?

Theres too much of an after hiss once you release throttle. In my opinion you should have mounted the dump valve closer to the TB. When the access air is being released it has to travel further to escape. Also undo the tension screw on the dump valve and allow it to open quicker. You should notice better response on gearchange.

Its probly because its running at a high idle at the munite 1200rpm as i was trying to ge tthe engine up to temp abit quicker and get some water moving round to help bleed the coolent.
system so the charger is still making boost that it needs to get rid of at "idle" and so its hissing more, the dump valve is also open at idle so its releaving all the time and is right next to the camera.

The DV is pritty close to the TB and it within reason it shouldnt realy make that much difference where it goes on the after intercooler side as your only talking next to no air in the pipework after it and the enigne is still using air, as long as you have an exit for the air it will not build up pressure.

If it wasnt for the large intercoolers we use acting like resivours and delaying the bleed down of pressure in the system theres not realy any reason the DV couldnt go near the turbo/supercharger as all your doing is stopping it building pressure in the pipeline so it doesnt matter weather you do it at the start and stop the pressure building or at the end let it build up pressure and the tap it off like you do conventionaly, this also means you dont have to refill all the pipe work causing lag :D

Breakthrough with the lights!!!

It would appear that the kind people at BMW made the bracket for the smiley light just then right size for the new head lights ive got to fit streight in to!!

I'll let the pics do the talking but this seams like its now going to be a case of a few self tapper in to the bmw frame from the frame of my new lights and a loom plug :D

Only thing i need to check is how far back they sit behind the grill but i'am sure its going to be pritty close!

Brilliant stuff matt. Can see it's making boost quite quickly even with the low rev limit*

Interested in those lights too - I'm following your and rich's work on this one. Rich is putting together a wiki article on the swap to single H4 but maybe you two can work together and get both the options up? No doubt I'll have something to contribute when I botch mine together too :)

Nice oil leak in the last pic too dude - glad it's not just me messin' up the drive way ;-)

*I'm assuming the bottom number on the laptop shots are either MAP or VE where > 100 == boost?

Youve got me worried now! the one firthest away is from the front timing chane cover top bit. the other looks to be under the new charger but i'am sure i checked it for leaks before i came away, i;ll not be able to sleep now! :(

ya i can! thats the problem! ive asked me dad to have alook to morrow morning before he goes to work , to put my mind at rest!

The 100+ thing is the injector table number its looking at IIRC, for some reason my boost pressure reading on the laptop is always - something never + dont know why, maybe it was never setup right by me in the first place :D

Looks like its coming from the power steering union, the supercharger is dry underneath and so is the power steering pump but theres a drop of oil on the union under the pump, ive left a pit of wood under the car and then ran it up to full temp to check for leaks and theres nothing comng from the charger.

Just remebered bet it was when i pulled the old dipstick out! it still had the plug on the top so it sucked the oil out as i lifted it then dropped it on the floor! like when you put your finger on the end of a straw. panick over :woohoo:

Think the pump could do with a new joint ring on that union though judt to be safe :D

Time for a small up date.

Got the lights finaly working after a small problem, copied the diagram with the relay from rix313s thread to turn the dip feed off when the main beam came on so as not to burn the bulb out.

Worked fine with the lights on but it ment that because the mains were relying one feed from the dips to supply the mains when the main feed switched the relay if you didnt have the lights on you would couldnt flash any one, say at junctions or what ever.

so spoke to rich to see if he's managed to work out away round it which he had, running the mains off the switch of the relay (main feed> relay coil> lights> earth)

It worked but on my lights anyway it made them dim, probly the coil acting like resistor. So anyway i linked the main feed to the coil to the + for the light and meaning you could flash some one but if you had the dips on you wouldnt be able to turn them off.

nearly there, the main was feeding back through the relay and keeping the main on so.... i disconnected the pin from number 87 on the relay so when the relay switched from the main feed it turned the dips off but didnt turn anything else on as the mains feed was linked to the main beem light directly, hope that makes sence :D :D

So heres the finished look.

Image

Image

Also got the car booked in to go and get remapped at emerald on the 3rd of april to get a rough map to run the new engine in when its built up :D should also get a good feel for how its going to go when its done :D

To get the car running and drivable i fitted this copper dip stick tube to make it all work but wasnt relay happy with it.

Image

So borrowed some pipe benders from work to day and bent an origonal dip stick to fit :D just need re painting.

Anything like this? Bypassing the relay to allow full beam but also going through the relay to close the swtich? Can't get m head around what you wrote :o: lol

EDIT (This diagram is incorrect DO NOT USE IT, the correct one is on the next page)

Thats pritty much it ya, i have nothing on 87 atall though, and 85 just goes to earth to switch the coil, we could have just used a normaly closed 4 pin relay in practice is suppose :D

Your new diagram looks like it will work fine to in essence it the same :D

I'd be looking to take that pin 87 off pretty sharpish otherwise, I'll be shorting the dipped beam feed directly to ground when the mains are on.
