I suppose I never really look up the details Re reliability - my projects tend to be in a permanent state of "broken"! (or "rusting" to be more accurate, esp the Mk1 Escort) :o:

Going to treat them to a seal kit and quick refurb/ tidy up and some new nipples, ooh err missus.

Greens are not ideal, I'd keep an eye out for some Reds if I were you. If they need any 280x22 discs/spacers/E30 > Wilwood lines let me know...

I'm a potless loser but these were a steal, I missed out on them first time they came up for sale and then eventually wore Barry down until he parted with them :)

Keri, they came with the extravagantly dusty greens, was looking at fitting reds. PM me for some details on what the cost would be for the corresponding 280x22 discs (did I read correctly that I need Corrado G60 discs with some machining to the centres?

I will probably also need spacers as the 35 offset on the 16" MIMS i'm fitting needed 3mm spacers just to clear 325 calipers. What's the deal with "Wilwood lines"?

I have Goodridge braided hoses to fit

Standard hoses are no good, Keri does the only hoses that fit properly

Got my rear calipers today, 294mm rears for my chariot winkeye

I'll bung you a PM, you're spot on with the discs. Re lines, the ones that normally come with this kit are not a great fit (just ask DanThe!!) and can be upgraded to WMS ones (WMS and Wilwood calipers both have the same brake line thread), but if you have Goodrich/Wilwood ones that someone's sorted in the past then there's no need.

EDIT - DanThe beat me!

Cheers Keri, they didn't come with any lines, so glad those in the know have mentioned this otherwise I'd end up having a bitch fit when my goodridge stuff wasn't connecting up right.

No problem, I'm a mine of useless info like that me....

PMed you pad prices etc - EBC Reds for the Midilite turn out to be nearly TWICE what the same pad for the WMS calipers cost, not what I expected at all!

If you're interested in performance friction pads, then Alyn (who offered the group buy on goodridge stainless lines) is a stockist.

I can look into DS3000's if you like? Not sure if they do them for the Midilite but I can ask?

Or the fact that it is your tyre tread, size of contact patch, slip angle, tyre compound and road surface that determines how much brake force can be applied before the tyres loses traction, none of which have anything to do with the number of pistons in your brake callipers, or the pads you choose.

But then I'm one to speak, I've had my four-pot moment, so good on you Lee, enjoy yours too! Great looking set of callipers you have there :thumb: Ferodo DS3000 pads get my vote, for what it's worth.

It is something that has always interested me, the '4 pot upgrade.' I am sure the PBMW boys runs standard 325i spec discs and and aftermarket pad/disc combo. I doubt they are getting any brake fade with r888s, so do you really need them on a road car with road tyres and never the amount of heat build up you are going to get at brands in a 20 minute race for example.

This is the only reason I haven't changed for larger brakes in my 205, with improving pad technology, I can still lock up on slicks after 25 minutes of track/hard braking. The pedal feel isn't imense, would it be better with 4 pots.

Come on 4 potters, sell me the benefits. 8)

I am very unimpressed with the standard brakes (yellow stuff pads and grooved discs though).

How ever I am not sure if it is the caliper, but more that stupid transfer bar.

I will be investing in 4 pots (although later than expexted) but I think I will give a pedal box a go first.

I put rx7 4 pots on mine with DS3000, use it for rallying and the pad life is so much better that they have paid for themselves already after 1 year. plus the brakes never give me any doubt after multiple high speed stops downhill.

I have upgraded the rears to vented off e46 320D again with ds3000 and instead of the pads lasting just 80 miles at a cost of £100 ish a set they have lastest almost a season.

No brainer if the car gets heavy use on track or rallying IMHO

I went from standard E30 discs and calipers to WMS gear on track and the difference was amazing, there was no brake fade noticed at all, and this is with a shagged/improperly adjusted servo/pedal linkage.
The calipers/brackets are also much much lighter

GeoffBob you old smoothie! :D

You're right, servos are nasty, but to bin them you need more piston area to regain the mechanical advantage. 'course you could fit a smaller master cylinder but where's the fun in that? If people want to fit WMS kits with no servo there are other piston sizes in the same caliper shape, but then they have to sort out their own bias etc (depends on each person's urge to jump in the deep end I suppose).

For most E30's the 4 pot advantage will be better pad control (f>r pistons on the pad, plus even inner/outer pad pressure without slider losses) and lighter weight. Other benefits are better cooling (conductive aluminium caliper bodies) and "better pads for the money" in a race caliper format, as well as the added torque/thermal mass/cooling area of bigger discs in most kits.

Ta for the kind words DanThe....
