What happened to your old IS?
It lives here in Ireland. I think it's had the engine roped out and is getting s50 treatment

So thought i'd better update this thread,

Headlining is no sorted, nice and tight in all the right areas winkeye thanks to Sweep for sorting me out with a new set of interior lights after mine were broken when i removed them.

Image

Here's a quick heads up to anybody with Hartge centre caps in storage not fitted to wheels, i had removed mine from the wheels while i did the refurb on the under side and while they were off the little metal spring clips snapped off at least one of the clips on every cap, not good, id do have a brand new spare set but these are for keeps so i though i would have a go at repairing the damaged ones.

Today i was in the office/workshop so last night did a drawing of a of an insert to repair the caps.

First was to turn down the outside on the lathe, bit of work on the inside to allow the clip to be fitted then, over to the milling machine then machine in the clips.

Now we have the below
Image

Now the hard bit, snapping off the old clips, not to bad on the cap I used as it only had two clips left but when it comes to the ones with three left its a bit of a no going back senario.

Anyway snapped the clips off, machine the cap down so its nice and smooth where the clips were.

Image

Couple of sockets to keep some weight the two parts while the glue sets.

Then remove the Hartge sticker and drill a 5mm hole in the center for a counter sunk screw with a repair washer for added security

Job done!

Just need to make 3 more now.

Theres always a possibility of a group buy if i could get a machine shop to CNC them up for me but on a hand lathe/mill it took me about and hour and half including setting up and working out how to go about it to do 1 so you'd be looking at around £60 a set for me to do them once I've got set up but sure a cnc mill could smash them out in half the time as £60 is abit steep plus you would have to buy some more stickers if weren't lucky and get them off in one piece.

P.S did your parcel arrive today? :D

Update!

Now complete with MOT and Tax!

Big thanks to Sweep for the loan of some touring rear calipers until my WMS rears turn up from Keri who's having trouble with suppliers :-(

While it was at the MOT place I had them swap the tyres from the 205 / 45 / 16s I had on to 215 / 45 / 16 fronts and 225 / 45 / 16 rears which suit the car much better and have made it smoother to drive although the back does look a little ballonish but think it's the fact that there's no cap throwing your eye so need to get that sorted asap.

Also the rear camber bad toe must be out as when the car loads up in the corner it suddley seams to steer from the rear and seams a little "loose" at the back so need to sort this sooner rather than later also.

Lastly the 3.07 torsen diff now fitted has made 70mph 2k revs which has really made it in to a over drive gear which is nice as its made the car more civilised compared to the 4.11 torsen that was fitted before.

Minor update I have now got a full size Hartge spare with the correct size tyre to match my rears so I don't scrap my different should I have a flat, also means that it will clear the front brakes which is a bonus!

Got the rim off Pete, knowing it had a buckle and sent it to lepsons for a refreshing and straighten, who said it was bent from the face and scrap.

Got it back and before scrapping it took it to the local tyre place to see how bad it was to find the front face ran perfect and there was a slight dip in the inner edge, so I took it to a local place Allen weldspec who took out the buckle on his special machine.

After this I decided to freshen it up my self, I found a Honda accord silver that was very close to the hartge colour after a search for the correct colour code drew a blank, quite pleased with the result to say I refurbish the wheel in the back of my van over a week on site.

Nice work bud! Sat and flicked through it, lots of similar to do with mine. One major thing I've taken from this is that i don't think ill be checking under my headlining anytime soon ;) ill wait till i see it the other side i think lol
