These are the new non original ones I have (£25 off eBay) Carpet isn't too bad and it's slightly lighter than what the originals are . The binding was crap so I had it re done in leather.

The originals have a thread binding which is clearly done by machine. Not sure if it should be replicated, hence the leather binding over it may be a wiser option and will tidy up the only bit that let's them down.
In all honesty they are really quite presentable but I'm just fussy.

The edging I have in 3 x factory fitted E46 and X3 matts is a sort of nubuck leather / Matt leatherette and let pjs way better than the sewn edging which looks chav.

Im not talking about the shiny vinyl edging - let's see how they turn out: these guys can also do seen edging if that's your thing.

@Polsta - The MotorMec ones are the best aftermarket ones I've seen.

Why does the old school edging look chav ? Newer ones like you say, and aftermarket copy mats and eBay mats etc, have leatherette or whatever stiched on, which like anything else these days compared to 80s... probably cheaper easier quicker to make i should imagine

It defnatley doesn't look chav compared to leatherette vinyl

Definitely, and sbsurd to say it looks chav compared to leatherette, sits next to the carpet and looks much nicer too, although the above is just daily use grey matts on a charcoal carpet it still looks ok , can only imagine how it would of looked when new with brand new carpet with brand new matching mats

The sewn edges looks chav cos its shiny and frays and I just remember seeing lots of crap mats down that way.

A smooth mat vinyl / nubuck type edging in the same colour as the carpet is smart and cleaner somehow.

They got it right after the E30...

E46 mats have 2 different types of edging. The lesser ones have the crap felt type. The better ones are threaded like the e30's

You've never even seen a single set of these in the flesh :/ let alone seen lots

They don't fray or easily come apart, these mats have had up to 30 years use and last amazingly well considering, you do get bobbling and fuzzing on edging , which is easily sorted, and probably worse wear on heavily used sets, but on mst I've seen the edging is always pretty good

Tip for anyone with these with fuzzy bobbly stiched edging -

Use a beard trimmer or flip out bit on electric shaver to carefully trim the fuzz, works wonders, and/or very lightly burn it with a flame from cigarette lighter and also melt/push in any loose thread, and a decent clean , can make them look great

What a dumb comment.

How do you know what I've seen or not seen. Furthermore I was referring to aftermarket ones.

Its a moot point - they look nasty. I have spoken.

Taking of focusing....

I need to try and get my radio to focus in properly too, can't get Kiss 100 to work properly. I think my aerial is in the wrong place. :(

Do the mats have to be in the correct position too? Can the left and right rear cabriolet mats get mixed up, don't want them to be out of line with OEM spec. :(
