well it appeared last friday the handbrake wouldn't adjust up on one side,

Image

hmmmm, i swear it did have half a handbrake before i stripped it how but anyhow

Image

euros got me one for £11 so not the end of the world but it was a bit of a pain to get the old one out rusty old shit

Image

Nicely adjusted handbrake, these are a right twat becasue the disc drum or the offset on the ix means the adjustment wheel is about 100mm away for the hub so when tryting to see through the wheel nut hole with a torch to find the wheel is harder to spot even you know where it is! Note fruited interior with liberal splashings of optional extras, there are more out of eye sight in this shot.

Brand spankers new genuine wishbone off german ebay, old stock for 65 euros plus the post.

These are weird the outer ball joint is a normal steel one but there is a circle of rubber between it and the arm, a bit like e36 ball joints but not

So i think its ready for an MOT as far as my knowledge and "skillz" so its going in Monday for a test. i've insured it today

I've still got that late M-tech wheel that was on my E34. It comes with the modified slip ring wiring and switch bracket to fit E34s with that wheel.

It all works. I had it on my E34 and no air bag light. Late E34's with that standard 3 spoke steering had the same set up.

How about £70.

Mo i'll have it bro.

Its only gone and f**kin passed

A few advisorys, namely that the wheels look a but square, 3 have flat spots on the outer lip like they have hit a kerb etc. An anti roll bar drop link on the rear and slightly frayed stitching on the rear seatbelts.

I'll take all that, i've just taxed it so its off to work tomorrow see how i get on with it. In fact i'll go out for a spin tonight

It was last taxed in 2008! Not many of these old things come back from the dead eh but its one more thats gone back on the road not up the scrapper

i am mad, bloody mad and stupid its just dawned on me. Its a bit of a road block, the things revving high on the motorway 80mph is 3500RPM in 5th! I bet it would struggle to do 120. I've spoiled myself using the e36 as a daily

I've got a dodgey cruise control actuator, it sometimes when cruising pulls the throttle wide open when you accelerate with the stalk OR just by itself randomly. Which is interestings, luckily M50's quite happily bounce off the limiter until you can shut them off.

an M5 or bi turbo would of blown themselves to bits!!

I've took the pollent filters out as there was hardly any airflow from the fan, they were dated 98 8O no wonder there then

I struggled to get a pollen filter for my E34 last time round, the whole thing is a crap design with poor airflow for such a big car

So the fun has started, last week it managed 2 days of daily use before it threw a challenge at me.

It took about 30 seconds of cranking to get it start when it was warm the other day. Car fully loaded at Howdens for my kitchen alterations. Got it going and home i went. Next morning it wouldn't fire up, just endless cranking like the night before but wouldn't go. Hmmm first thought was fuel pump as i couldn't hear a noise from it when cranking over. It wasn't the pump but the fuel pump relay had gone.

So i picked up a relay today and fitted it and now its running again, but with a weird kind of miss now and then on idle, and hunts a little or when driving it can do the same and its a momentary loss of power. I went for a spin earlier for 15 mins, cruising round its fine. Only seems to happen under load or at idle. I shall take it to work tomorrow and see what happens any brain waves

Theres not alot on these? Cam sensor or MAF going awol. I guess after 7 years off the road it was going to throw out a few curve balls

The ECU's on the M50's are very delicate now they are old, they can chuck their toys out the pram at any time.

Try disconnecting either the ECU or battery, leaving it for an hour or so to reset the ECU then let it idle for at least 10 minutes to enable base idle settings to be learnt. Switch off, then take it for a drive throughout the rev range.

Worth a try, surely? It works with the M20 ECUs, and they use the same EPROM chip.

Those 405 ECU's are gold dust. Sadly the 2.0 ones won't fit - they're Siemens, not Bosch ...... different plug innit.
