Shut it Dezzy's I wasn't boasting I was offsetting the spazzyness of my posts... Plus tools are great but all I'd end up doing is poking bits of metal under the bonnet with them what I need is a Haynes manual and a mechanics course at local college :)

P.s no offence taken Polsta

Ha ha ha.

Ok I'm sorry. I'll shut it. You have been a good sport. You've always posted when many wouldn't have. You've never tried to hide the next disaster. For that you deserve respect.

I mean nothing by my posts mate. I'm just pulling your leg.

I have actually tried to warn you about the amount of coin you've spent to date. If your happy to keep throwing good money after bad at it, that's your choice. :D

if it makes you feel any better mate,i bought a "nice" tech 1 sport last summer, bargain price too and was very nice

onnly visible bit of rust was bit on rear arches at the back as it went under the kit and some previous repairs to rear valance

"GET THE KIT OFF" were the cries, plan was to drive and enjoy it the summer, and then start on it this year...which was the plan i stuck to and did, stripped the whole car down...hardly any rust at all and no horrors under the kit or anything at all

its still off the road , anjd in the quest for perfection and ensure its mint for years, it wont be back on the road until next spring, and a £4000 bill by the time its done !!! ...and i miss driving it

Don't bother with the Haynes manual, it won't have anything of relevance to your E30.

Have a good read of the Wiki, which I based mostly on the far superior Bentley manual for the E30, as well as a large amount of the technical docs direct from BMW. If you get stuck, do a search on the Technical forums. If you want a proper book, get the E30 Bible, written by Andy on these forums.

When I bought my E30 three years ago, my old man bought me a Halfords Pro 50-piece socket set and some spanners. With those basic tools I've stripped down and rebuilt the car from the ground up; you don't need much more to do absolutely everything on the E30 - they're not complex cars at all.

And never mind these stirring coonts :D

Paul.. ive a decent knowledge of E30's & i'm only a few miles from you, if there is ever anything your unsure of contact me & we can meet up.
i'm home all day tomorrow (Sunday & Monday.. but can't leave home) if you fancy a drive over the erskine bridge.. PM me if you want to come over & i'll PM U back with details :)

don't take this the wrong way but.. E30's are fairly simple car's to work on. but to the not so mechanically minded they can be a rolling mine field.

THANKS GUYS!

I'm sure if I got something off I could get it back on again but I wouldnt know where to start with diagnosing an issue and what not and when you read stuff alot of its just jargon for example go to wikipedia and search camshaft I gave up to return when I know more :)

Don't worry too much about the front valence. They are bolted on and good ones are readily available. Adit on here for example has loads for sale an will probably have one the right colour

the area around the rear towing eye is a hotspot for rot.

When it comes to rot, the earlier you get in about it, the less time and money it'll cost you. I still recall taking the Tech II kit off my sport...... and being pleasantly surprised.

Do it, do it now.

Please get this car checked PROPERLY for rust/rot. Most have issues by now. They hide it well. You've got to really want to find it. Bulkhead, front and rear sills, inner arches, fusebox and toe eye rear valance are the worse areas.

Before you throw anymore money at it you need to know if it's worth it.

A bit late now tbh but you were warned. 8O

towing eye area always goes mate, as long as all around the lights, joins, boot drainage runs etc at the top, (get rear carpet out and have a good look) is all nice, youd not need to even think about a new rear panel, get the tow eye sorted asap before it gets worse, then think about sills next year maybe with the floor and dash out at same time

Normal rule of thumb with these turds is, times whatever you can see by ten and you'll be somewhere near.

We've all been through it. You need to have owned a rotten one to know what to look for. They are that good at hiding it, they can look solid until you start digging. :(

ive seen a couple with real rear panel issues, some people choose to ignore them a bit, had a look round one that was absoloutly hanging, pretty much shot to pieces way way beyond repair rear panel, loads of water in the boot wells, leaking like a sieve all over..yet hes busy buying bling wheels and interior and stuff and driving it around in the rain, whilst its also infecting the sides of the rear quarters , i thought f**k me crazy 8O

iirc there is a nylon bush somewhere on the steering column that produces this noise - not sure on the fix though
