Hey guys,

This week I restore all four of the calipers from my E30. I zinc plate and gold passivate them for a factory finish.

This video is super late due to the Spanish postal system.

Enjoy.

Lovely results there - hopefully an inspiration to others.
One question. With all the plating gear around and associated power supplies around, why didn't you use electrolysis to do the original rust removal, instead of blasting?

Cheers, Brian.

In hindsight, I wish I did after blasting as not all of the rust was gone. But blasting is A. More satisfying to watch, B. It's much faster and C. It does a better job at getting the build-up rust off, and leaves the surface uniformly smooth.

Electrolysis does a more thorough job though.

Can you do more colours for the outside Stevie ?

On a practical note, how much "Dremmel" media do you get through and how do you pick up all the minute shards which get into everything - including your socks and pets.

I've tested loads of brands and all those wire wheels fall to pieces leaving nasty metal filaments everywhere in no time at all -
