hi
Im hoping to get some of these brackets made up. The brackets will suit 750i/some 740i and e34 m5 calipers.
At the min there going to be mild steel cnc machined.
Not sure off price yet im just trying to gauge interest.
So if interested please form a list
Cheers

These are to fit Audi TT discs with the big BMW calipers.
I'm definately after a set if the price is right.

stainless for strength and lack of rust.Theres quite a lot of leverage on that braket.I wouldn't use aluminium as it maybe too soft, holes may elongate or just bend, although it is a strong material.Anyway,im looking into making these in stainless steel,at work on a cnc machine.
Anyone know the thickness of these ? 15 seems to ring a bell.

but saying that, if there was ever an area on the car you dont want to fail, it would be the brakes. Anybody got the dimensions of the TT disc, and i will work out the forces.

Yes generally i agree, but it makes no difference to me on such a small part. Also how expensive is the ali 7075 ? i bet more than 304 stainless.George_Of_The_Jungle wrote:could use some ali 7075, easier to machine than stainless.

Actually will need the OD of the disc, and the dimensions of the pads in the 750 caliper.......
I would have thought stainless and 7075 would be fairly equally priced. For the quantity needed, there aint gonna be much difference in the price. I think if it was for track use only would deff go for ali, but on the roads, the weight isnt going to make much difference.

Might be a dumb question, but....presumably these metals expand due to heat and at different rates. Is this enough to give detrimental alignment effects?

yes they do deform with heat, and ali more so than steel. but the heat conducted into the brackets combined with their chunky dimensions. i doubt that deformation would occur.
Thinking about it, the ali could do with being anodised so an extra cost. yes. i now agree stainless is the way forward.

304 stainless can be done but at the min can only buy the material in a 4meter length and it is quite expensive. This would make about 12 sets of these.

Stick me down for a set. Stainless would be nice so hope fully we can get some more people on board to make it viable.

Right an update
The brackets are for calipers from E32 750i/740i and e34 540i.
The discs which are needed are Audi TT 312mm available from gsf for about £33 each for vented or £47 each for X drilled.
The discs will need modifing, 4 holes at 100mm P.C.D, and 1mm from the bore to fit onto the hub.
The brackets will be made from 304 grade stainless steel.
Price of brackets should be £60-70 per as a guide. 300mm de sell these for £107 i believe.
If needed i could have the machining work done on the discs for an extra charge.
Id like at least 10 people to commit to this before i buy the material and make them.
This could equate to a big brake conversion for £130.
Please add and also state if you want me to sort the discs out aswell.
The list so far is;
1- Driftboy
2 - Ric325i (dep on price etc)
3 - Andy
