Is anyone else having trouble fitting their linkage to a standard e30 rack? mine doesn't seem long enough and where i have had to drill through the rack spline looks a bit high up for my liking

Is this a compulsory item for a rack upgrade? I've an E46 sport rack and the conversion kit from Dave - Do i need this part to install the rack or am i all good to do + PAS fluid?

Thanks! :D

This is mainly for engine conversions to give maximum clearance to exhaust manifolds, but if you are a bit of a tart it does look a hell of a lot nicer than a bolted together E30 linkage :)

Well i thought about a 6 branch to go with the new rack but was told there will be clearance issues? I suppose this would eliminate them?

Thanks :D

Got round to fitting one on an E36 rack with an M50, the bolt/nut heads were fouling the manifold so I helicoiled one side and made a grub screw that would tighten down to its shoulder. Also massaged the manifold with some heat and hammer action.
I will look into some neater screws with allen key type heads

Remember, I will mod the UJ's for anyone who has bought a linkage if you pay postage both ways and donate to my Stella fund :D

Do the UJ's wear, or is it a needless expense buying new ones?

I'd be prepared to buy new ones unless they're silly money or, as you and DanThe seem to be suggesting, that used ones are just as good.

Some nice hammer wounds going on there 8O

There is no need to hammer anything on the linkage, all you need to do is drop the RH rack bolt out, slacken the other and then swing the rack forwards a bit, easy 8)

Hammer was used when I remove them from the e34 :o:
my problem was the screw that secure the low part of the linkage to the rack
I had to modify it

Just drill the hole out to 10mm, the bolt will then pass the notch in the spline

Just the top joint that fits onto the column, you will prob need to drill the rivets out of the rubber joint, send the whole thing if your not sure or CBA :)
