Afternoon,

After some Info before I splash the cash 😬.

So as per the title I'm planning on building a E30turbo.

I have the opportunity to purchase a 4 door 316 and E36 325i vert.

I know the 316 will need new everything to cope with the power, but I just wanted a good solid base to work from.

So is there much else apart from the engine, loom, ECU I can utilise in my build? I know I will custom ECU for the turbo but was planning to get the m50 transplant done properly first.

How much power can the stock M50 take, ideally I'd like a reliable 450bhp if possible??

Or would the compression ratio be a problem with that much power, I would change the head gasket for MLS and ARP bolts mininmum??

And advice would be great guys, commtied to the project just want to make sure I don't buy what I don't need..

Cheers

Lobbo

If you're going to transplant it first, I'd probably look at doing the ECU at the same time, that way you can get it set up, ensure that the majority of it all works nicely. Can't speak for power but it seems plenty of people run 400 -500? But reliability is the key word, can those engines do 12,000 a year every year for the next 10 years at that power without excessive maintenance?

Oh you'll probably want the rear dif and any other parts you can salvage for a 5 stud swap
