I'm just trying to get my head screwed on before i begin this project.

2 major questions that are stopping me from sleeping at night. I've gone through the wiki and done a search but can't seem to find answers.. i've also asked our good friend google.

1) I have a 1986 high compression engine, is this ok to turbo or do i need to somehow lower compression?

2) Megasquirt, do they do a plug and play for this model? i can only find from 1987 onwards?

Thanksss much loveeee <3

1. depends on your power goals

Early High Compression engines used the earlier management systems, which aren't as effective as the later management system.

The later management system is the Motronic 1.3

My engine is also the earlier pre 1987 high compression engine, but I have the later Motronic 1.3 management on mine, which is better.

Once converted to Motronic 1.3, you may be able to plug and play the Megasquirt

The megaspuirt plug and play kit is for Motronic 1.3 which has several differences to Motronic 1.1. If your car is using 1.1, it would make sense to upgrade to 1.3.

I would also stick in a low comp engine at the same time or build a proper low compression lump. Not sure how well m20's stand up to 300hp without uprating pistons, rods and head bolts. Ross2009 is the guy to speak to for turbo m20's
